  • Brewers' Victor Caratini: Swats first homer

Caratini went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

Caratini provided all of Milwaukee's offense with his solo shot in the eighth inning. It was the first long ball for the backstop as a Brewer after he hit seven homers for the Padres last season. Caratini is slashing .308/.400/.615 on the campaign, and he has split time behind the plate with Omar Narvaez thus far.

  • Pirates' Roberto Perez: Expected back Sunday

Perez (quadriceps) is expected to return to the lineup Sunday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Perez was hit in his left quadriceps by a foul ball Friday and was out of the lineup Saturday. That move was made out of precaution due to the lack of catching depth within the organization. The issue is not believed to be serious. Andrew Knapp would be the playing time beneficiary if Perez is out longer than expected, or if the team opts to give him continued rest.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Not starting Saturday

Smith isn't starting Saturday's game against Cincinnati, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Smith started the last two games and went 3-for-8 with a homer, four RBI and a strikeout. Austin Barnes will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Pirates' Roberto Perez: Day-to-day with bruised quadriceps

Perez is considered day-to-day after getting hit in his left quadriceps by a foul ball Friday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Perez hasn't been diagnosed with anything worse than a contusion, but he could still get a day or two to rest. Andrew Knapp will take over behind the plate Saturday against Washington.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: On bench against southpaw

Narvaez isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

After going 3-for-8 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two strikeouts in the last two games, Narvaez will rest with left-hander Steven Matz starting for the Cardinals. Victor Caratini will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Retreats to bench

Diaz isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Diaz started the last five games and went 8-for-20 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI. He'll get a breather while Dom Nunez starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Not starting Saturday

D'Arnaud isn't starting Saturday's game against the Padres.

D'Arnaud started the last two games and went 1-for-8 with a run. Manny Pina will start behind the dish and bat ninth Saturday.

  • Reds' Mark Kolozsvary: Added to taxi squad

Kolozsvary was added to the Reds' taxi squad Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Kolozsvary was sent to the minors in late March, but he'll travel with the Reds during their current road trip on the West Coast. He's appeared in four games at Double-A Chattanooga this year and has hit .100 with four runs, two RBI, four walks and four strikeouts.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Not starting Saturday

McCann isn't starting Saturday's game against Arizona.

McCann has gone 0-for-10 with a run, a stolen base, a walk and a strikeout in his last three appearances, and he'll be on the bench for the second time in the last three games. Tomas Nido will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Collects three hits Friday

Contreras went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Friday's loss to the Rockies.

Contreras got a breather for Thursday's series opener, but he quickly took advantage of Coors Field on Friday. The Chicago catcher is off to a nice start, batting .389 with a 1.222 OPS through five games. He's only driven in two runs across those contests, but if Contreras keeps hitting like this, the counting stats should follow.
