Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Takes seat Thursday
Adams isn't starting Thursday's game against Miami.
Adams has recorded hits in each of his last six appearances, but he continues to alternate starts behind the dish. Tres Barrera will start at catcher and bat eighth.

Jacob Stallings C | BAL
Pirates' Jacob Stallings: On bench Thursday
Stallings isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.
Stallings drew starts in each of the last three games and went 3-for-10 with a double, two RBI and a walk. Michael Perez will take over behind the dish and bat eighth.

Curt Casali C | ATL
Giants' Curt Casali: Playing time still limited
Casali has gone 6-for-26 (.231) with a home run and two doubles through nine games in August.
Casali sees a regular work pattern, typically starting behind the dish roughly once every three games. He went 0-for-3 Wednesday versus the Mets with Buster Posey sidelined by knee discomfort, although the latter had started four games in a row (once as the designated hitter in Oakland) and likely would have sat out that contest anyway. Should Posey need more time off, Casali could get a short-term bump in playing time, but he's hit to a mediocre .219/.321/.388 slash line with five homers, 23 RBI, 18 runs scored and 10 doubles in 185 plate appearances.

Tucker Barnhart C | TEX
Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Not in Thursday's lineup
Barnhart will sit Thursday against the Brewers.
Barnhart hits the bench after starting seven of the last 10 games behind the plate. Tyler Stephenson takes over in his absence.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Homers again Wednesday
Smith went 2-for-6 with a solo home run, a walk, stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Padres.
The Dodgers were unable to get anything going against Blake Snell over the first seven frames, but Smith came through in the eighth with a solo blast to tie the game up at one apiece. The 26-year-old later reached in the 15th inning and would score off a base knock by Trea Turner. Smith is one of three catchers in baseball to have reached 20 home runs this season and is now slashing .259/.368/.497 with 37 extra-base hits, 61 RBI, 57 runs scored, three steals and 47:81 BB:K over 399 plate appearances.

Alex Jackson C | MIN
Marlins' Alex Jackson: Riding pine Wednesday
Jackson isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Jackson will head to the bench for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday. Jorge Alfaro will start behind the plate and bat seventh.

Keibert Ruiz C | WAS
Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Smashes two homers
Ruiz went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and three RBI for Triple-A Rochester against Syracuse on Tuesday.
He'd been off to a bit of a cool start power-wise with his new organization, homering just once in his first 15 games since being traded, but Ruiz still fills the box score with hits even when he's not knocking them over the fence. Both of his homers Tuesday came while batting left-handed, and it's interesting to note that the switch-hitting Ruiz has hit 18 of his 19 long balls this year from the left side, where his swing is a little reminiscent of David Ortiz's. He's been no slouch from the right side, though, hitting .320/.354/.453 (in a much smaller sample of at-bats). As a bonus in this era of hitters selling out for power, Ruiz has struck out just three times in his last 11 games (44 at-bats) and just 33 times in 298 plate appearances all season.

Will Smith C | LAD
Dodgers' Will Smith: Goes deep Tuesday
Smith went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's win over San Diego.
The backstop staked the Dodgers to an early lead with a solo shot to center field in the second inning. The blast was his 19th of the season, tops among catchers in the National League. Smith is slashing .271/.393/.604 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 29 games since the All-Star break.

Tres Barrera C | WAS
Nationals' Tres Barrera: Homers in win
Barrera went 3-for-4 with a homer, two singles and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Marlins.
Barrera provided one of two big swings for Washington on Tuesday when he took Miami starter Jesus Luzardo deep in the fourth inning for a two-run homer. The Nationals' catcher is now 8-for-17 in four games against the Marlins this season.
