The backstop had arguably the most impressive at-bat of the contest in the second inning, working the count full before fouling off six straight pitches and concluding with his fifth long ball of the campaign. Smith ranks second among catchers leaguewide with 24 RBI this season, and he has posted a .246/.354/.410 slash line along with a 20:23 BB:K over 144 plate appearances.

Diaz went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk Sunday against the Nationals.

Diaz singled to center field in the seventh inning to tally his ninth RBI of the season. He has hit just .164 across 18 games in May, also recording three RBI and five runs scored. Diaz has had a disappointing campaign to this point, maintaining a .212/.264/.314 line across 129 plate appearances.

Herrera hurt his ankle while running out an infield hit during the seventh inning of Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Dodgers, Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic reports.

Herrera remained in the game, and manager Torey Lovullo said the catcher twisted the ankle but was fine. In other Herrera-related news, Daulton Varsho, who was held out of the starting lineup Saturday and Sunday with a shoulder injury, entered the game as a pinch hitter and is expected to be ready to resume on-field duties Monday against Atlanta.

Narvaez went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Cardinals.

Narvaez hadn't hit a triple since 2018 with the White Sox, but he came up a home run short of a cycle in the unexpected performance. The 30-year-old has multiple hits in each of his last three games, going 7-for-11 in that span. He's lifted his slash line to .276/.372/.429 with two home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and seven doubles across 113 plate appearances this year while serving as the Brewers' top catcher.

Nido is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Nido and Patrick Mazeika have now alternated turns behind the plate over the past seven games, with the former getting three starts to the latter's four. Expect a rough timeshare to remain in place for the two backstops until James McCann (wrist) is cleared to return from the 10-day injured list, likely at some point shortly before the All-Star break.

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in San Diego.

The lefty-hitting Perez will take a seat for the third time in four games, paving the way for the switch-hitting Tyler Heineman to pick up another turn behind the dish. The Pirates have faced left-handed starting pitchers twice during the past three contests, so that could explain why Perez was passed over for the start in favor of Heineman. The two backstops may continue to work in a platoon for Pittsburgh, with neither representing an especially appealing fantasy option.

Nola is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Nola will take a seat for the day game following the night game after he started at catcher and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 4-2 loss. With Nola on the bench, Jorge Alfaro will catch for starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore in the series finale.

Adams went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and three runs in the Nationals' 13-7 win Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Since No. 1 backstop Keibert Ruiz was behind the plate for the Nationals' 3-2 loss in the nightcap, Adams will draw the start at catcher as the two teams close out their series Sunday with a day game after a night game. Adams has posted a .679 OPS in 53 plate appearances on the season while serving as Ruiz's main understudy.

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.

After going 1-for-4 with a double in the Nationals' 3-2 loss Saturday in the second half of a doubleheader, Ruiz will get a breather as the two teams wrap up their series with a day game. Riley Adams will check in for Ruiz behind the plate.

Stallings is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Stallings will receive a routine maintenance day after he caught each of Miami's last five games while going 5-for-17 at the dish with two doubles, two walks, three RBI and a run. Nick Fortes will form a battery with starting pitcher Elieser Hernandez.
