Mets' James McCann: Sitting Game 1

McCann is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

McCann was never likely to start both games of Sunday's twin bill, and he'll take a seat during the matinee. Tomas Nido will catch in the afternoon contest for the Mets.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Receives breather Sunday

Stallings is not in the lineup Sunday versus Milwaukee, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Stallings started the past three games and will take a seat for Sunday afternoon's series finale against the Brewers. Michael Perez will work behind the plate in his place.

  • Padres' Victor Caratini: Not starting Sunday

Caratini is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Caratini started the first two games of the series and will take a seat for the finale after going 1-for-6 with a walk. Webster Rivas will start behind the plate in his place Sunday.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Sitting with forearm issue

Gomes is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers after getting hit by a pitch on the right forearm Saturday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

The 33-year-old never exited Saturday's contest but is dealing with some swelling Sunday morning, so he'll receive the day off given the quick turnaround. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, so Gomes should be considered day-to-day. Tres Barrera will start at catcher in his place.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Not starting Sunday

Narvaez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Narvaez went 5-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored during Saturday's contest, and he'll receive the day off Sunday after starting the past four games. Manny Pina will work behind the plate for the Brewers in the series finale.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Not starting Sunday

Smith is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Saturday night's rain delay led to a long night behind the plate for Smith, so it's understandable that he sits out Sunday's morning game. Smith has struggled a bit offensively of late, hitting .220 in his last 15 games. Austin Barnes will catch and bat eighth Sunday.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Slugs three-run homer

Gomes went 1-for-2 with a walk and a three-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

The catcher was responsible for all three of Washington's runs in the contest, slugging a three-run homer off Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning. The long ball was his eighth of the season and pushed his RBI total to 30. Gomes has been heating up of late, batting .364 (8-for-22) with three doubles and four RBI over his past seven games.

  • Tres Barrera C | WAS

Nationals' Tres Barrera: Recalled by Nationals

Barrera was recalled by the Nationals on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Barrera has appeared in 37 games with Triple-A Rochester to begin the season, and he slashed .224/.324/.345 with three home runs, 14 RBI and 11 runs. He'll now rejoin the major-league roster and should serve in a depth role at catcher after Alex Avila (calf) was placed on the injured list Saturday.

  • Braves' William Contreras: On bench Saturday

Contreras isn't starting Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Contreras went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday, and he'll be out of the lineup for the fourth time in the last six games. Kevan Smith will start behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Riding pine Saturday

Barnhart isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs.

Barnhart has gone 0-for-5 with two walks and three strikeouts across his last four appearances, and he continues to alternate starts behind the dish. Tyler Stephenson will start at catcher and bat fifth.
