  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Launches go-ahead homer

Murphy went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run during Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Angels.

Murphy struck out in his other three plate appearances, but he made his one hit count as he took the first pitch of the at-bat from Ryan Zeferjahn deep to left-center field for a three-run homer in the sixth. Murphy has a home run in each of his last three starts, and his 12 home runs this season is tied with Shea Langeliers for fourth most among major-league catchers.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Won't start in nightcap

Torrens is not in the Mets' starting lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

After starting at catcher and going 1-for-3 in the Mets' 7-2 loss to the Brewers in Game 1, Torrens will get a breather for Wednesday's nightcap. Hayden Senger will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Won't play Game 2

Torrens is not in the Mets' starting lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

After starting in the Mets' 7-2 loss to the Brewers in Game 1 -- during which he went 1-for-3 -- Torrens will get a breather for Wednesday's night cap. Hayden Senger serves behind home plate and bat ninth in Game 2.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Resting for nightcap

Realmuto is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Padres.

Realmuto will be rested for the nightcap after he played all nine innings behind the plate and went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in the Phillies' 6-4 loss in Game 1. Rafael Marchan will handle the catching duties in Game 2.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Idle against lefty

Baldwin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Atlanta is facing a left-handed starting pitcher (Yusei Kikuchi) for the fourth game in a row, and the left-handed-hitting Baldwin has now been on the bench for three of those contests. Manager Brian Snitker looks content to use a loose platoon at catcher between Baldwin and the right-handed-hitting Sean Murphy, who should continue to get most of the starts versus southpaws.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Still ramping up in rehab

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Amaya (oblique) is "not close" to a return to game action, MLB.com reports.

Amaya has resumed throwing, taking normal batting practice, and catching bullpen sessions, but he looks as though he'll need a little more time to ramp up the intensity of his workouts before he's ready to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Cubs have already indicated that Amaya won't return from the 10-day injured list until around the All-Star break at the earliest while he recovers from a left oblique strain. Chicago can afford to be patient, as Carson Kelly has performed well as the team's primary backstop with Amaya on the shelf.

  • Padres' Martin Maldonado: Resting for early game

Maldonado is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Phillies.

Elias Diaz will draw the start behind the dish for the first game of the day, but expect Maldonado to handle catching duties for the nightcap. Maldonado batted just .179 with two home runs, five runs and three RBI over 20 games in June, but despite his lackluster production, he still appears to be the Padres' preferred catcher.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Idle for first game of day

Adams is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Tigers.

Drew Millas will start behind the plate for the early game, but Adams will presumably return to the lineup for the nightcap to handle catching duties. Since Keibert Ruiz (concussion) landed on the 7-day injured list June 24, Adams had started in four of the Nationals' last five games.

  • Joe Mack C | MIA

Marlins' Joe Mack: Goes yard twice for Jacksonville

Mack went 4-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

All of a sudden, the 22-year-old catcher might be the hottest hitter in the International League. Over the last seven games, Mack has gone 16-for-29 (.552) with two doubles, five homers, nine runs and nine RBI. There's no room for him on the big-league roster right now, but Mack could rocket up prospect lists in the second half if he continues to rake.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Sitting again in favor of Davis

Bart is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals.

Even with the Pirates and Cardinals wrapping up their series with a day game after a night game, Pittsburgh will go with Henry Davis at catcher for the second day in a row. Since returning from the injured list June 17, Bart has made eight starts to Davis' seven starts, but Davis has started behind the dish in three of the last four contests.
