  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Gets rest day

Realmuto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

He'll get a breather for the day game after a night game, affording Garrett Stubbs a turn behind the plate. Realmuto had caught each of the Phillies' last five games and went 6-for-18 with three-extra base knocks and a stolen base.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Not starting Wednesday

Nola is on the bench Wednesday versus the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Brett Sullivan will handle catching duties in place of Nola, who has gone 5-for-31 with a pair of extra-base hits and three RBI in his last 10 games.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Back in big leagues

The Royals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Tuesday's 11-7 loss to Baltimore.

Fermin entered the contest in the top of the eighth inning and caught the final two frames after Salvador Perez exited with a finger contusion. According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, the Royals plan to deploy MJ Melendez exclusively in the outfield moving forward, so Fermin will serve as the No. 2 catcher behind Perez. However, those plans could change if Perez's injury proves to be more serious than expected and he requires a stint on the injured list.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Resting for Game 1 of twin bill

Alvarez is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez had been behind the dish for three of the Mets' last four games, but he'll sit out the first half of the twin bill while Tomas Nido gets a turn to catch starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi. Expect Alvarez to re-enter the lineup for the second game to form a battery with Max Scherzer.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Powers win with two homers

Wong went 4-for-4 with a double and two solo home runs in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old backstop continued his ascent into the starting role for Boston as he reeled off his third straight multi-hit performance. Wong provided both the tying and winning runs in the comeback victory with his first career multi-homer game, and through 69 plate appearances in 2023 he's slashing .290/.353/.516 with five doubles, three homers, 10 RBI and 11 runs, and all three of his homers have come in his last two starts. With Reese McGuire's struggles against the running game limiting his playing time despite a respectable .761 OPS, Wong's fantasy value is soaring.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Orioles' James McCann: Supplies three hits in win

McCann went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Royals.

McCann collected his first three-hit effort in just his 11th game of the season. He singled home a run in the fourth and would eventually score. The 33-year-old got another base hit in the fifth and in the eighth, raising his slash line to .250/.250/.444 with two homers, five RBI, five runs and a 0:5 BB:K over 36 plate appearances. McCann primarily operates as Adley Rutschman's backup but manager Brandon Hyde has gotten his bat in the lineup as a DH at times, as he did Tuesday.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Four hits in Tuesday's win

Rutschman went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 11-7 win over the Royals.

Rutschman reached in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and was driven home each time off the bat of Ryan Mountcastle. He picked up his 18th RBI on a double in the sixth and now has tallied three games with at least four hits this season. Tuesday's effort raised his slash line to .315/.429/.472, but the 25-year-old does not have a home run since April 13. He sits at four on the year and has scored 15 runs to go with a remarkable 23:18 BB:K over 133 plate appearances.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Homers, drives in winning run

Diaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Brewers.

Diaz smacked a Freddy Peralta slider 453 feet to left field in the fourth inning, but his more critical knock came in the eighth, when he singled home Yonathan Daza to break a 2-2 tie. The 32-year-old catcher has a career .692 OPS, but he is slashing .330/.385/.500 to start the season.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Collects two hits

Diaz went 2-for-3 with one double in Tuesday's 2-0 loss against the Giants.

Diaz was the only bright spot for the Houston offense, as he picked two of the team's three hits. The rookie is Hunter Brown's personal catcher, but he is stuck behind Martin Maldonado on the depth chart. Diaz had an .898 OPS across Double-A and Triple-A last season. If he ever receives regular playing time, his bat could provide fantasy value from the catcher position.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Diagnosed with finger contusion

The Royals announced Perez is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday's game against the Orioles with a contusion on his left middle finger. X-rays returned negative.

Perez was hit in the finger on Anthony Santander's backswing in the eighth inning. The backstop may end up missing a game or two with the bruise, but it does appear he's avoided a significant injury. Freddy Fermin should handle catching duties while Perez is unavailable.
