  • Brewers' Victor Caratini: Catches breather Sunday

Caratini is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

After starting eight straight games, Caratini will get a chance to rest. Mario Feliciano will take Caratini's place behind the plate.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Starting Sunday's contest

Gomes is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Reds.

Willson Contreras gets a breather in the series finale, while Franmil Reyes will serve as the DH. The addition of Reyes has cut into Gomes' playing time, as the former is seeing most of his playing time at DH, and Gomes typically either catches or serves as the DH when he's in the lineup. At this point, the veteran simply looks like a backup to Contreras, which limits his fantasy appeal.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Out of Sunday's lineup

Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Contreras started the first two games against Cincinnati but will get the series finale off. Yan Gomes will do the catching Sunday, with Franmil Reyes slotting in as the DH. Contreras has had another good season behind the plate, supplying an .831 OPS and 17 home runs across 96 games so far.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Receives maintenance day

Haase is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Haase started the first two games of the series in Chicago and will take a seat for the finale after going 1-for-7 with a double, an RBI and five strikeouts. Tucker Barnhart will work behind the plate and bat eighth Sunday.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting out Sunday

Smith is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs and a walk in Saturday's contest, but he will be held out Sunday with the Dodgers playing a day game following a night game. Tony Wolters will replace Smith behind the plate.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Not starting Sunday

Jansen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Jansen has a .367 OPS through seven games in August and will take a seat Sunday for the third time in Toronto's past four contests. Alejandro Kirk will work behind the plate while Teoscar Hernandez rests his legs as the designated hitter.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

    Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Resting Sunday

Ruiz is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com.

Ruiz does not sit much, but he will get a day off with the Nationals playing a day game following a night game. Tres Barrera will take over behind the plate.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Receives Sunday off

Grandal is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Grandal started the past five games and will take a seat Sunday after going 5-for-16 with a home run, two RBI, two runs and four walks during that stretch. Seby Zavala will work behind the plate and bat eighth in the series finale versus Detroit.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Solo homer in win

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-2 victory over Cincinnati.

Contreras launched a solo shot in the top of the ninth inning Saturday. He now has three homers in August after hitting just one in July. It gives him 17 home runs on the year to go along with a .253 batting average. The veteran catcher put together his third multi-hit outing in 10 games this month, giving him 10 hits to six strikeouts in 38 at-bats.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

    Rangers' Jonah Heim: Doubles twice

Heim went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in a 7-4 win over the Mariners on Saturday.

Heim had a productive night at the plate, rapping out a couple of doubles to give him 18 on the season. Heim's performance could be a sign that he is about to come out of a terrible August slump which had seen him slash .074/.242/.185 over 27 at-bats this month entering Saturday's game. The 27-year-old catcher is still in the midst of a productive season and has a 2.7 WAR, according to Baseball-Reference.
