Smith started the last six games and slashed .250/.308/.417 with a homer, a walk, eight RBI and three runs across that span. Austin Barnes will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

Jansen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Jansen has been one of the big losers of the Blue Jays' reluctance to use George Springer in the outfield for the past few weeks while he's contended with elbow and knee injuries. With Springer clogging up the designated hitter spot for the second straight game Wednesday, Alejandro Kirk will serve as the Blue Jays' catcher. Though Jansen is the superior defender behind the plate, Kirk's bat is too potent for the Blue Jays to take him out of the lineup.

Sanchez will sit Wednesday versus the Astros.

Sanchez will take a seat after he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Tuesday's series opener. Sandy Leon will take over behind the plate and bat ninth against Houston.

Plawecki is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Plawecki appears to have reclaimed Boston's No. 1 catching job after starting each of the past three games while going 5-for-9 at the plate, but he'll get a breather Wednesday. Reese McGuire will catch for starting pitcher Brayan Bello while Plawecki rests.

Hedges is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Hedges returned Tuesday from a one-game absence due to a sprained ankle, starting at catcher while going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Guardians' 3-1 win. Though he didn't suffer any apparent setbacks with the ankle Tuesday, Hedges will get a breather nonetheless while the two teams wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Luke Maile will draw the start behind the plate.

Stallings isn't starting Wednesday against the Athletics, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Stallings has alternated starts behind the dish recently and will head to the bench after he went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two strikeouts Tuesday. Nick Fortes is starting at catcher and batting fifth.

Nola is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Guardians.

Nola will get a breather after he went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's loss. Jorge Alfaro will take over at catcher and bat ninth in the series finale.

Zavala went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Tuesday against the Orioles.

Zavala has started both games since Yasmani Grandal (knee) has been out. He hit ninth on each occasion but has reached base in five of his eight plate appearances. In 151 plate appearances this season, Zavala is hitting .284/.342/.403, and he should continue to get regular at-bats so long as Grandal is sidelined.

Murphy went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run in a loss to the Marlins on Tuesday.

Murphy continued his extra-base-hit barrage Tuesday, with his pair of two-baggers pushing his tally to a career-high 30 doubles and 47 extra-base knocks overall. Murphy's current .255 average is also the highest of any end-of-season figure he's ever produced in that category, and he now owns a .333/.422/.583 slash line in August along with a modest 15.7 percent strikeout rate.

Diaz will sit Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Diaz will take a seat after he went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer in his first game back from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Brian Serven will take over behind the plate and bat eighth against Texas.
