  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Getting breather Wednesday

Bailey isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey will get a chance to catch his breath Wednesday after going 4-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored over the first two games of the series. Andrew Knizner will fill in for him behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Drew Romo C | CHW

Rockies' Drew Romo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Romo to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Romo went 0-for-3 at the plate while serving as the Rockies' third catcher, and the return of Warming Bernabel (concussion) from the IL will now push the former back to the minor leagues. The 24-year-old backstop has slashed .264/.329/.409 across 244 plate appearances at Albuquerque and will most likely remain there for the rest of the year.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Resting Wednesday

O'Hoppe is not in the Angels' starting lineup against the Royals on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

O'Hoppe will take a breather while Sebastian Rivero works behind home plate and bats eighth. O'Hope has gone 4-for-19 (.211) with one double since being reinstated from the 7-day concussion injured list Sept. 15.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Absent from lineup

Realmuto (finger) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's tilt against the Marlins, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Realmuto had to be lifted from Tuesday's game after taking a foul tip off his right index finger. X-rays came back negative and he should be fine, but Realmuto will sit out at least one contest. Rafael Marchan is catching and batting ninth for the Phillies on Wednesday.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Exiting starting nine

Contreras is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in San Diego.

After starting at catcher in each of the first two games of the series, Contreras will get a breather during Wednesday's matinee. Danny Jansen will be behind the dish and bat ninth as the Brewers try to avoid being swept.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Grabbing seat Wednesday

Adams is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Adams started at catcher in the first two games of the series, so he'll get a break during Wednesday's matinee. Jorge Alfaro will be behind the dish and bat seventh as the Nationals try to avoid the sweep.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Ends slump

Narvaez went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Toronto.

Narvaez picked a pivotal time to snap an 0-for-17 skid when he doubled home a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning. The wear-and-tear of being the primary catcher has caught up to Narvaez in the second half; he's slashing .180/.230/.374 in 68 games since the All-Star break.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Swats clutch home run

Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Cubs.

Alvarez went deep in the eighth off Caleb Thielbar to put the Mets ahead 9-7. It was Alvarez's third home run in his last nine games, a span during which he's batting .310/.394/.690. Alvarez has quietly put together a productive second half of the season when he's been available. In 37 games since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on July 21, Alvarez is hitting .282/.363/.573 with seven homers and 19 RBI.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: On base four times

Vazquez went 1-for-1 with two walks and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rangers. He was also hit by a pitch.

Vazquez had a productive evening on offense, reaching base four times and even swiping his first bag of the year. Both Vazquez and Ryan Jeffers returned from the injured list on consecutive days to begin the week and the two will likely end up splitting duties once again to close out the season.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Involved in win

McCann went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Dodgers.

Once the Diamondbacks got Los Angeles starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani out of the game after six shutout innings, McCann and company scored five times over the final three frames for the comeback win. McCann doubled in the first run and scored the third run in the seventh inning. His sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the ninth put two teammates in scoring position, and they both eventually scored for the win. McCann has been useful to Arizona's late-season push for the playoffs, going 5-for-17 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI over his last five games.
