  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Set to lose playing time

Stubbs is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

He'll be on the bench for the fourth straight game and is likely to see scant playing time down the stretch after J.T. Realmuto returned to action Friday following a week-long absence. Stubbs will at least stick around as the top backup to Realmuto after the Phillies designated No. 3 backstop Aramis Garcia for assignment Sunday.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Receiving day off

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Alvarez will receive a break after making five straight starts, during which he went 5-for-18 with two homers and six RBI. Luis Torrens is working behind the plate Sunday for lefty David Peterson.

  • Nick Fortes C | MIA

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Not in Sunday's lineup

Fortes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Fortes started the previous four games and will receive Sunday off after going 1-for-10 with a hit-by-pitch and a run. Jhonny Pereda will step in behind the plate to catch for right-hander Adam Oller.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Receiving breather Sunday

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Wells worked behind the plate in the first three games of the series and will receive a break in the finale after going 1-for-11 with a walk and four strikeouts. Jose Trevino will do the catching for lefty Carlos Rodon.

  • Phillies' Aramis Garcia: DFA'd by Philadelphia

The Phillies designated Garcia for assignment Sunday.

Garcia was promoted to the big club Sept. 7 after J.T. Realmuto suffered a knee injury. Garcia appeared in three games for the Phillies and went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts over that span. The move makes room on the 28-man roster for the reinstatement of third baseman Alec Bohm (hand) from the 10-day injured list.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Getting breather Sunday

Pages is absent from Sunday's lineup against Toronto.

Pages will sit for the series finale after going 2-for-8 with one stolen base over the first two games against the Blue Jays. Ivan Herrera will start behind home plate and bat sixth against Toronto right-hander Yariel Rodriguez.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Getting Sunday off

Rogers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Rogers will get a break for the day game after he caught all nine innings of the Tigers' 4-2 loss Saturday night. Dillon Dingler will check in for Rogers behind the dish.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Active in camp game

Moreno (adductor) caught five innings of a game at the Diamondbacks' camp Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Moreno took three at-bats and ran the bases during the game. The Diamondbacks will monitor the catcher's recovery Sunday before making any decisions, but Moreno could be activated in time for Monday's series opener in Colorado.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Rare steal in win

Fermin went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Pirates.

Fermin has gone a modest 6-for-28 (.214) over 10 games in September. He's seen the bulk of the work behind the dish since Vinnie Pasquantino (thumb) got hurt, as Salvador Perez has seen more frequent looks at first base. Fermin has been quietly decent this year with a .286/.335/.387 slash line, six home runs, 36 RBI, 39 runs scored and two steals across 344 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Homers, drives in four

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, four RBI and three total runs scored in Saturday's 15-8 win over the Diamondbacks.

Contreras did a little bit of everything, including opening the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He added an RBI double in the fourth a two-run home run in the ninth to log multiple RBI for the second time over 12 games in September. The catcher is hitting .231 (9-for-39) this month, but he still has a brilliant .280/.362/.470 slash line with 22 homers, 88 RBI, 94 runs scored and six stolen bases through a career-high 144 contests this season.
