Rupp is not in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Pirates, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Enquirer reports.

Rupp has been the primary catcher for much of the season, but the Phillies are hoping to get catching prospect Jorge Alfaro into the lineup more down the stretch, so Rupp will take Tuesday's game off to comply. The 27-year-old will likely see a few more days off in the next few weeks in order to give Alfaro more time to show his skills.

D'Arnaud is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

Despite going 2-for-4 in Monday's series opener, d'Arnaud will head back to the bench for another day off. Rene Rivera will slot in for him behind the plate.

Perez (personal) is in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

Perez was scratched from Monday's lineup due to the birth of his child, but he is back with the team and will be back in the lineup Tuesday night, hitting fifth and catching Danny Duffy.

Sanchez homered and knocked in two in a 3-for-4 game Monday against the Giants.

Sanchez is hitting a cool .333/.364/.619 since returning to the majors August 31. Given Monday's news that catcher Christian Bethancourt is unlikely to return this season and Sanchez's hot hitting ways, look for the 26-year-old to get plenty of at-bats in San Diego down the stretch.

Gomes (shoulder) will catch nine innings at Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Gomes is slated for DH duties Wednesday before the team will re-evaluate his progress before deciding on its next course of action.

Bethancourt (intercostal) is likely to miss the remainder of the season, A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Bethancourt has been on the disabled list with an intercostal strain since August 31, a core injury that is notorious for long rehab times. Considering the Padres are well outside the playoff picture, they'll play it safe and let Bethancourt heal over the offseason. If he is indeed done, he'll finish with a .228/.265/.368 batting line -- certainly poor, but he'll finish with an OPS above .600 for the first time in three seasons.

Perez was scratched from Monday's lineup due to the birth of his child, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.

Perez was initially penciled into the lineup batting fifth, but the birth of his child will lead him to miss the beginning of the game at the very least. Drew Butera will fill in for him behind the plate for the evening.

Thole has received just two at-bats since signing a major league contract with the Blue Jays at the beginning of the month.

Thole's 2016 campaign has been one to forget. The 29-year-old came out of spring training as R.A. Dickey's personal catcher and in line to receive a solid amount of spot work spelling veteran backstop Russell Martin. Now sporting a career-low .155 average through 116 at-bats, Thole only gets on the field when Dickey is on the hill, and the catcher immediately comes off -- usually via a double-switch -- as soon as the knuckleballer is finished. Now with Dioner Navarro in the mix (and Dickey's next start being skipped), Thole is unlikely to see much, if any, playing time in the near future.

Contreras is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.

After starting two of the last three games for the Cubs, Contreras will take a seat in favor of David Ross behind the plate. The rookie has been held without a hit in his last three starts but has a respectable .798 OPS since Aug. 1.

Rupp is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Rupp, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Saturday, will head to the bench for Sunday's contest, a day game following a night game. A.J. Ellis will get the nod to start at catcher while Rupp gets the day off.
