  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Brought up from minors

The Diamondbacks recalled Herrera from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

He'll be back with the big club as a replacement on the 26-man active roster for fellow catcher Gabriel Moreno (shoulder), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Herrera will likely serve as the primary backup to Carson Kelly for however long Moreno is ultimately sidelined.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Heads to IL

The Diamondbacks placed Moreno on the 10-day injured list Sunday with left shoulder inflammation.

Moreno's move to the IL comes after he was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Reds. The Diamondbacks recalled catcher Jose Herrera from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move, but Carson Kelly should serve as Arizona's clear-cut No. 1 backstop for however long Moreno is sidelined.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

    Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Resting Sunday

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Ruiz had started behind the dish in each of the Nationals' last six games, so he was probably overdue for a day off. Riley Adams will form a battery with starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore in the series finale.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Out of Sunday's lineup

Naylor is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

The 23-year-old usually sits against left-handed pitchers but will take a seat Sunday with righty Aaron Nola starting for Philadelphia. Naylor has a .571 OPS this season and is 3-for-17 since the All-Star break. Cam Gallagher will step in behind the plate to catch for Xzavion Curry.

  • Yankees' Kyle Higashioka: Takes over as primary backstop

Higashioka will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Higashioka will be making his fourth start in five games and looks poised to serve as the Yankees' top backstop after Jose Trevino was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier in the weekend with a wrist injury that will require season-ending surgery. Over 165 plate appearances this season, Higashioka has hit .227 while providing a modicum of pop (five home runs). Ben Rortvedt will serve as Higashioka's understudy for the time being but could get a look in the No. 1 role if Higashioka's high-strikeout tendencies send his batting average further south.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

    Tigers' Jake Rogers: Resting Sunday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Rogers will take a seat in the series finale after he started behind the plate Friday and Saturday while going 2-for-8 with a double, two runs and an RBI between those contests. Eric Haase will form a battery with starting pitcher Alex Faedo on Sunday.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Hits bench Sunday

Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Campusano will head to the bench for the series finale after he started behind the plate three of the past four games while going 5-for-15 with a home run, four RBI and two additional runs during that stretch. Now that he's healthy again after missing just over two months while recovering from thumb surgery, Campusano could end up displacing Gary Sanchez as the Friars' preferred option behind the plate. Sanchez has slugged nine home runs since joining the Padres in late May, but he's batting a woeful .193 in 42 games with the club.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Massive four-hit day

Campusano went 4-for-5 with a three-run home run, an additional RBI and two additional runs scored in Saturday's 14-3 victory over the Tigers.

Campusano slugged his first homer since coming off the 60-day IL this week, plating Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth in the eighth by taking Jose Cisnero yard for his second long ball of the campaign. The outing doubled his season runs scored total (6), while his four RBI set a single-game career high. The four-hit day was much needed for Campusano after he started out 1-for-10 (.100) over his first three games since being activated.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Powers M's to win

Raleigh went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Blue Jays.

The catcher took Kevin Gausman deep in the third and fifth innings, part of a power display that saw seven of the Mariners' nine hits on the night go for extra bases. Raleigh has three homers in his last five starts, giving him 14 long balls and 38 RBI through 84 games on the season to go along with a .221/.302/.421 slash line.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Four hits in Saturday's loss

Kirk went 4-for-5 in Saturday's 9-8 loss to the Mariners.

All four hits were singles, and none of them led directly to runs, but it's still another sign Kirk is beginning to turn his season around. The 24-year-old backstop has seven hits in his last two starts, and since the All-Star break he's batting .471 (8-for-17) to push his slash line on the season up to .252/.331/.330.
