White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Option for starts in outfield

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Sheets could see some action in the outfield, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Sheets is one of the few White Sox players that's been hitting, so using him in the outfield would allow the club to keep his bat in the lineup even after the return of Eloy Jimenez from the injured list Monday. While he's a natural first baseman, most of Sheets' playing time at the major-league level has come in the outfield, so it's not foreign to him. He should receive fairly regular reps in the outfield versus righties while he's swinging a hot bat.

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Could play some outfield

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Jimenez, who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day, could be used some in the outfield, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Gavin Sheets filled in admirably as the designated hitter while Jimenez was sidelined and is also an option -- and probably a likelier one -- to see action in the outfield as the team seeks to keep both bats in the lineup. All three of Jimenez's starts this season came at DH before he got hurt, and only 14 of his 118 starts in 2023 were in the outfield. It's possible he could wind up playing the outfield enough to pick up eligibility there in fantasy, but the White Sox also want to keep him healthy and having Jimenez play the field heightens that risk.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Homers again Monday

O'Hearn went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-4 win over the Twins.

O'Hearn has two homers and a pair of multi-hit efforts over his last two contests. The 30-year-old has carved out a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter while also seeing some time at first base. O'Hearn is quietly finding success in the heart of the Orioles' order, batting .325 with three homers, four RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and a triple through 13 contests. He has not yet attempted a stolen base after swiping five bags in 112 games last year.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Rays' Harold Ramirez: Lone source of offense

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run batted in during Monday's 7-3 loss to the Angels.

Ramirez provided all three of Tampa Bay's runs, plating Jose Siri on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning before launching a two-run homer off Matt Moore in the eighth. The long ball was Ramirez's first of 2024, and just his second extra-base hit through 62 at-bats. In 15 games, Ramirez is slashing .258/.258/.323 with nine runs scored.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Activated from injured list

Jimenez (adductor) was activated from the 10-day injured list by the White Sox on Monday.

Jimenez is not in Monday's lineup against the Royals but will be available off the bench. He hasn't played since March 31 because of a left adductor strain but was cleared to return after ramping up his running over the weekend. Gavin Sheets is getting another start at designated hitter Monday.

  • Wyatt Langford OF | TEX

Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Day off Monday

Langford is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest in Detroit.

It looks to be a regular day of rest for the rookie. Langford is still looking for his first home run, but an 11:6 K:BB over his first 68 plate appearances shows that he hasn't been overmatched by big-league pitching. Evan Carter is in left field and Travis Jankowski is in the designated hitter spot Monday.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Sits against left-hander

Kirilloff is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Baltimore.

Southpaw Cole Irvin is on the hill for the Orioles, so Kirilloff will take a seat. Christian Vazquez is getting a start in the designated hitter spot.

  • Guardians' Estevan Florial: Playing time trending up

Florial will start in right field and bat seventh in Monday's game in Boston.

It's the fourth straight start against a right-hander for Florial, and in the game he didn't start versus a lefty he came off the bench to hit a pinch-hit home run. Florial is 2-for-9 with two home runs and a 4:2 K:BB over that stretch. Ramon Laureano and Will Brennan will be on the bench Monday.

  • Guardians' Estevan Florial: Goes yard again

Florial hit a solo home run as a pinch hitter in Sunday's 8-7 extra-inning win over the Yankees.

Florial enjoyed a vengeful weekend, hitting his first two homers of the season against his former team over the last two days. The outfielder is still batting .190 through 25 plate appearances, to go with a 4:10 BB:K, but it looks like he's starting to build some momentum. Florial remains in a crowded competition for playing time between center field, right field and designated hitter, and he should have chances to draw into the lineup at least versus right-handed pitchers.

  • Justin Turner 1B | CHC

Blue Jays' Justin Turner: Three hits, three RBI in win

Turner went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Sunday's 5-0 victory over Colorado.

Turner made his mark early Sunday, notching an RBI single in the first inning. He later added an RBI double in the fourth frame before driving in another run on a base knock in the fifth inning. Turner has now recorded at least one hit in six consecutive games, batting .526 with three doubles, four RBI and three runs scored over those contests.
