  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Cabrera isn't starting Wednesday against the Twins.

Eric Haase will step in as the designated hitter for the series finale while Cabrera gets the day off after he went 0-for-15 with a run, a walk and two strikeouts over the last four games. According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, manager A.J. Hinch said Cabrera has been bothered by his right knee lately, and though the issue isn't serious enough to send the 39-year-old to the injured list, he'll likely be getting more frequent days off over the final two months of the season.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Sitting against southpaw

Choi is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

With southpaw Yusei Kikuchi on the bump for Toronto, the lefty-hitting Choi will retreat to the bench, ending a string of eight consecutive starts in which he went 4-for-31 with 10 strikeouts. Isaac Paredes will cover first base and David Peralta will get a turn as the Rays' designated hitter while Choi rests.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Stays hot Tuesday

Jimenez went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, four RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 9-2 win over the Royals.

Jimenez had an RBI single in the first inning, a two-run double in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. This was his first three-hit effort of the season, and it extended his hitting streak to eight games. In that span, the outfielder has gone 13-for-29 (.448) with three homers, seven RBI and six runs scored. He's lifted his season slash line to .273/.308/.455 through 107 plate appearances.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Officially sent to minors

Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Reyes cleaned out his locker after Monday's win over Arizona and has now been officially sent to Triple-A. The 27-year-old has a .213/.254/.350 slash line with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 280 plate appearances this year, so the demotion is well warranted. Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

    Royals' Brent Rooker: Joins Royals

Rooker was traded from the Padres to the Royals in exchange for Cam Gallagher on Tuesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

The deal appears to accomplish little more than shifting some organizational depth pieces around. Rooker owns a career .690 OPS in 67 major-league games, just two of which have come this season.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Out again Tuesday

Buxton (undisclosed) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

The Twins were hoping to get Buxton back Tuesday, but he will open on the bench for a second straight day. Nick Gordon will get the nod in center field in Buxton's place.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Sparse opportunity since activation

Torrens has logged just 12 plate appearances across six games since being activated from the injured list July 9.

Torrens had started in three of the last four games before his placement on the IL due to a shoulder injury, but the Mariners have given Cal Raleigh the bulk of playing time behind the dish in recent weeks. Even the Mariners' current rash of injuries to other position players hasn't served to open up much opportunity at designated hitter for Torrens, who's carrying a .208/.262/.225 slash line over 42 games this season.

  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Slugs third homer Monday

Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Yankees on Monday.

The struggling slugger gave fantasy managers something to celebrate with his third homer, a 387-foot shot to left in the second inning that put Seattle on the board. Lewis' only other two homers during his injury-plagued season had come in consecutive games May 27-28, and Tuesday's blast served as his first extra-base hit in the 10 games he's played since the All-Star break.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Seven-game hitting streak

Jimenez went 2-for-4 Monday against the Royals.

Jimenez extended his hitting streak to seven games, which has included three multi-hit performances. In that span, he's maintained a .367 average with three home runs, three RBI and five runs scored. Jimenez is hitting only .250/.284/.427 across 102 plate appearances for the season, but he's showing signs of regaining comfort at the dish.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Likely to be optioned

Reyes is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Columbus prior to Tuesday's game, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Reyes was seen cleaning out his locker after Monday's win over the Diamondbacks. Perhaps he's traded prior to Tuesday's deadline and remains in the big leagues with another organization, but either way, the 27-year-old will be off the Guardians' 26-man active roster, at least for the time being. Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) appears close to returning from the injured list for Cleveland.
