  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

Rangers' Nick Solak: Launches pinch-hit HR

Solak went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Orioles.

Solak entered as a pinch hitter and finished off the scoring with a ninth-inning blast, his third homer of the season -- he has 11 in the minors. The right-hitting utility player has been used sparingly since being called up at the All-Star break, making a couple of starts against lefties and also serving as a pinch hitter. In both of his starts, Solak has been replaced for a pinch hitter.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Not 100 percent

Buxton, according to manager Rocco Baldelli, "was not going to be able to play (Monday)" due to some apparent soreness, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Baldelli indicated that Buxton could have made things worse by taking the field Monday, so he was held out of the game altogether. Baldelli is hoping that will be the extent of the absence, but Buxton will likely enter Tuesday less than 100 percent.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Not in Monday's lineup

Buxton isn't starting Monday against the Tigers.

Buxton is resting after he went 5-for-18 with three homers, a double, five runs, three RBI and a stolen base over the last five games. Nick Gordon will take over in center field and bat seventh.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Not starting Monday

Carpenter isn't starting Monday against the Mariners.

Carpenter has started against just five left-handed pitchers this year and is getting a breather with southpaw Marco Gonzales on the mound for Seattle. Aaron Judge is shifting to right field while Aaron Hicks starts in center.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Reaches base four times

Ohtani went 2-for-2 with a triple, a run, two walks and a caught stealing in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Ohtani tripled and scored in the first inning, walked and was caught stealing second in the third, singled in the fifth and walked again in the seventh for his fifth occasion reaching base four times this season and first since June 28. The 28-year-old closes July on a high note -- going 3-for-6 with a home run, a triple and three walks in his last two games -- though he slashed a modest .224/.360/.459 with six home runs, 12 runs, 13 RBI and three stolen bases in 25 games overall during the month.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Ties game with homer

Winker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Astros.

Winker took Astros reliever Ryne Stanek deep in the eighth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Over his last 11 games, Winker has found himself in a 6-for-35 (.171) funk, but injuries to Julio Rodriguez (wrist) and Dylan Moore (back) should secure the veteran's role in the everyday lineup. Winker is slashing .226/.336/.349 with nine homers, 37 RBI, 31 runs scored and 14 doubles through 93 contests.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Records rare steal

Reyes went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rays.

Reyes isn't known for his speed, but he singled, moved to second on an Andres Gimenez walk, stole third and scored on an Austin Hedges single in the fifth inning. Both of Reyes' steals this season have come in July, a month in which the designated hitter batted .230 (23-for-100) with nine extra-base hits, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. For the season, he's slashing .214/.254/.351 with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 24 runs scored and nine doubles in 279 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: May resume activities early in week

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Stanton (Achilles) should be cleared to start baseball activities "early this week," Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Stanton, who is recovering from left Achilles tendinitis, will be eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday, but it looks as though he'll need more than the minimum amount of time to recover from the injury and get fully ramped back up. Assuming Boone's prediction comes to pass, a weekend activation could be a possibility for Stanton, though the Yankees are more likely to wait until the following week to bring the slugger back. The team's recent acquisition of Andrew Benintendi lessens the need for the Yankees to rush Stanton back at less than 100 percent.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Yet to resume baseball activities

Stanton (Achilles) hasn't yet returned to performing baseball activities, the Associated Press reports.

Stanton landed on the 10-day IL on July 26 and is eligible to return Aug. 3, but it doesn't appear likely that he'll be back after a minimum stay. The slugger was originally thought to be experiencing fatigue, but an MRI later turned up left Achilles tendinitis. It's unclear how long Stanton will be sidelined, but the organization may opt to take a conservative approach given his recent injury history.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Slugs 15th homer

Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in an 8-2 win against Kansas City on Saturday.

Carpenter made his first start in three games and came through with a solo shot to right field in the seventh inning. The homer was his 15th in only 40 games with the Yankees, and he's slashing an impressive .311/.425/.792 over that span. Despite the impressive numbers, Carpenter's playing time could take a hit with New York's acquisition of Andrew Benintendi, though the former is versatile enough to still carve out enough playing time to make an impact.
