  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Shoulder injury making progress

Buxton is making progress in his recovery from a left shoulder subluxation and getting closer to facing live pitching, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Buxton was placed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 3 and manager Rocco Baldelli said it would be two weeks or more before he could be evaluated. It's not clear when Buxton may return, but at least there's some positive movement.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Approaching on-field workouts

Stanton (knee) is running up to 75-to-85 percent on the anti-gravity treadmill and is closing in on a return to on-field workouts, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Stanton isn't eligible to come off the injured list until Aug. 25, though he'll need to make significant progress over the next few weeks to be ready by that date. Considering he's been sidelined since June 26 with a knee strain, he'll likely need at least a handful of games in the minors to get back up to speed. It's also worth noting that New York has a firm grasp on the American League East, so there'll be no need to rush the slugger back into action before he's ready.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Yankees' Mike Ford: Retreats to bench

Ford isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Ford has started 10 straight contests since rejoining the Yankees in early August, going 5-for-37 (.135) with three homers and four RBI over that stretch. DJ LeMahieu gets the call at first base and will lead off with Ford riding the pine Tuesday night.

Ford went 1-for-8 with a solo home run in a doubleheader sweep over Baltimore on Monday.

Ford started at first base and slotted in the eighth spot in both games of the twin bill, registering his only hit with a 388-foot homer in the fourth inning of Game 2. The 27-year-old has started nine of the last 10 games for New York. He is batting only .135 (5-for-37) in that span, though three of his hits have left the yard.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Extends hitting streak to 11 games

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 6-5 loss to Cleveland.

Martinez is up to 28 long balls this season after his fourth-inning solo shot Monday. He's been on an absolute tear in August, going 19-for-42 (.452) with five homers during his active 11-game hitting streak.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Sitting vs. southpaw

Choi is not in the lineup Monday against the Padres, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Choi will give way to Jesus Aguilar at first base for Monday's series opener in San Diego as the Rays go with a righty-heavy lineup against left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Since the start of August, Choi is 3-for-21 with a 5:6 BB:K.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Royals' Jorge Soler: Blasts two home runs

Soler went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and five RBI in a 10-2 win over the Tigers on Sunday.

Soler hit a two-run shot in the third inning and added another solo homer in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old homered four times in the final three games of the series and is three away from the Royals franchise record. Soler is hitting .259/.344/.555 with 35 home runs through 120 games this season.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Reaches 72 RBI

Brantley went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Orioles.

Brantley knocked home a pair of runs in the ninth inning on a triple to right field, giving his team the lead. However, Baltimore would strike for three runs in the ninth to take the series finale. The 32-year-old has now hit safely in six straight games, going 11-for-25 with four extra-base hits and nine RBI over that stretch.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Closing in on 50 RBI

Ohtani went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Red Sox.

Ohtani drove home a pair of runs in the second inning, giving his team an early three-run cushion. The 25-year-old continues to put up an impressive sophomore campaign at the dish, slashing .290/.353/.507 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI over 80 contests.

  • Mariners' Daniel Vogelbach: Sitting against lefty

He heads to the bench with a lefty (Ryan Yarbrough) on the hill for the opposition. Austin Nola will start at first base and hit fifth.
