  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Sitting again Tuesday

Belt is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Tyler Gilbert is the second consecutive left-hander starter sent out by Arizona, and Belt will take a seat for the second straight day as a result. The veteran first baseman is 2-for-25 with an RBI, two walks and 11 strikeouts across his past nine games.

  • Bligh Madris DH | STL

Pirates' Bligh Madris: Heads to bench Tuesday

Madris is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

He'll cede his spot in the corner outfield to Ben Gamel (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Though Gamel will start Tuesday and had been a fixture in the lineup against right-handed pitching prior to landing on the shelf May 29, he's a 30-year-old on an expiring deal who might not have a future with a rebuilding Pittsburgh squad. As a result, Gamel's return won't necessarily spell an end to Madris' time as a regular, especially while the rookie has delivered a credible .734 OPS through his first 51 big-league plate appearances.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Marlins' Jorge Soler: Working out at spring facility

Soler (pelvis) is taking part in mobility and core-strengthening work at the Marlins' spring training facility in Jupiter, Fla. this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

While it's encouraging that Soler is not being shut down from activity entirely after he landed on the 10-day injured list Friday with bilateral pelvis inflammation, he may have to ramp up the intensity of his workouts in the next day or two to have a realistic chance at being activated during the upcoming weekend. Bryan De La Cruz should continue to handle a full-time role in the Miami outfield for however long Soler is on the shelf.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: On bench Tuesday

Morel is not in the lineup Tuesday in Milwaukee, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It's a day off for Morel, who went 0-for-2 with a trio of walks and two strikeouts Monday. David Bote will step in as the second baseman and ninth hitter for the second game of the series in Milwaukee.

  • Cooper Hummel LF | HOU

Diamondbacks' Cooper Hummel: Active in win

Hummel started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Monday's 8-3 win over the Giants.

Hummel was recently called up, giving Arizona another right-handed bat -- he's a switch hitter -- to deploy against the southpaws, like San Francisco's Carlos Rodon. The 27-year-old outfielder batted .178 during his first MLB stint in 2022, but after a productive stretch at Triple-A Reno, Hummel has hit in three consecutive games with two stolen bases.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Posts three hits

Turner went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rockies.

Turner's three hits were all singles. The third baseman has six games with three or more hits this year, and three of them have come in his last 11 contests. In that span, he's batting .395 (15-for-38). His surge at the plate has lifted his season slash line to .238/.308/.390 with seven home runs, 43 RBI, 36 runs scored, 20 doubles and a stolen base through 305 plate appearances. His average hasn't been this high since April 18, and it looks like Turner may be working his way out of a prolonged run of mediocrity.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Checks out of Monday's lineup

Blackmon is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Blackmon is hitting .321 (36-for-112) since June 2, but he will be held out Monday with the Rockies loading up on right-handed hitters against Dodgers southpaw Julio Urias. Yonathan Daza will enter the lineup in Blackmon's place.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Not in Monday's lineup

Pederson is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Pederson started three of the last five times the Giants faced a lefty, but he will be held out Monday with southpaw Madison Bumgarner on the mound for the opponent. Darin Ruf will get the start in left field in Pederson's place.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Gets breather Monday

Belt is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Belt is stuck in a 4-for-34 (.118) slump and the Giants are facing lefty Madison Bumgarner on Monday, so he will get a day to clear his head. Wilmer Flores will start at first base for the Giants.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Braves' Mike Ford: Sent to Triple-A Gwinnett

Ford was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Ford served mainly as a depth piece after being claimed off waivers in late June, and he will head to the minors with Eddie Rosario rejoining the big club Monday. Ford figures to be an option next time Atlanta needs to bring up a bat from the minor-league ranks.
