  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Won't return after minimum

Dickerson (oblique) won't return when first eligible Sunday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Dickerson was originally expected to require just a minimum-length stay on the injured list after straining his oblique at the end of July. He's now a bit behind that timeline. He may also require a brief rehab assignment before returning to action, further delaying his return date.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

    Giants' Brandon Belt: Sitting Wednesday

Belt is not starting Wednesday against the Nationals.

Belt hasn't been swinging the bat well lately, hitting .178/.229/.289 over his last 11 games. Pablo Sandoval will start at first base in his absence.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Slugs 14th homer

Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Tuesday in the Astros' 11-6 win over the Rockies.

Alvarez took German Marquez deep in the second inning for his 14th home run, making him the first Astros player in franchise history to reach that total within his first 50 games, per ESPN Stats & Info. The rookie will put an eight-game on-base streak on the line in the series finale Wednesday, when he'll bat cleanup while occupying the designated hitter spot.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Hitting sixth Wednesday

Carpenter is starting at third base and hitting sixth Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Carpenter hit leadoff in his first two games back from the injured list, but after going 1-for-9 with a trio of strikeouts in those games, he'll drop to sixth in the order for a second straight game while Dexter Fowler mans the leadoff spot.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

White Sox's Ryan Goins: Drives in a pair

Goins went 5-for-8 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored across both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against the Tigers.

Goins had a big day at the dish, reaching base multiple times in both contests. He's served as the team's primary third baseman since Yoan Moncada (hamstring) hit the injured list on Aug. 1 and has been relatively productive, recording at least one hit in five of his seven starts. In a small sample this season with the big-league club, Goins has hit .333/.440/.540 across 76 plate appearances.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Royals' Jorge Soler: Two more homers

Soler went 2-for-2 with two home runs, four RBI and two walks Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Soler took Andrew Cashner deep on two occasions, once in the fourth inning followed by another shot in the sixth frame. He now has 31 homers on the campaign, including four in his last nine games. He shows no signs of slowing down, and currently boasts a .253/.335/.530 line across 476 plate appearances.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Situated on bench

Ramirez isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Ramirez will head to the bench after going 1-for-7 with an RBI through the first two games of the series. Jon Berti is set to man left field and hit second in Ramirez's stead.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Returns to lineup

Martinez (back) will slot in as the designated hitter and bat third Tuesday against Kansas City, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Martinez was scratched from Monday's lineup due to a back issue, but he's been cleared to return Tuesday, indicating that the issue wasn't particularly severe. The slugger is hitting .343 with four homers and 10 RBI over his last 10 contests, so the Red Sox will be more than happy to get Martinez back in the fold.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Stuck on bench in NL park

Ohtani remains on the bench Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Ohtani can't play the field this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. With no designated hitter available under National League rules, he'll be limited to pinch-hit duty Tuesday. Expect him back in the lineup Thursday in Boston.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Nearing career high in homers

Pederson went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run in Monday's 8-0 win over the Cardinals.

Since busting out for 26 home runs as a rookie in 2015, Pederson has come tantalizing close to establishing a new career high in the category on two occasions, finishing with 25 long balls apiece in 2016 and 2018. Assuming health prevails over the final two months of the season, Pederson shouldn't have much trouble surpassing his rookie-year mark after going deep for the 24th time Monday. The Dodgers will continue to withhold Pederson from the lineup versus left-handed pitching, but his .821 OPS should keep him locked into the starting nine against righties in most games unless he falls into an extended slump.
