  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Remains sidelined Sunday

Dickerson (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Milwaukee, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Dickerson was removed from Friday's game with back tightness and will be out of the lineup for a second straight contest. The 29-year-old has battled significant back issues in the past, but manager Bruce Bochy believes the issue is minor and that he'll rejoin the starting nine Monday. According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Dickerson is also available off the bench Sunday.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Struggling with contact

Carpenter, who was reinstated from the injured list last Thursday, is 2-for-9 with six strikeouts in the first two games following the All-Star break.

The nightmarish season continues for Carpenter, whose 25.7 percent strikeout rate is the highest of his major-league career. When factoring out his initial seven-game cup of coffee with the Cardinals back in 2011, all three components of Carpenter's current .216/.322/.376 line qualify as career worsts. Moreover, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that manager Mike Shildt will continue to rotate other hitters into the leadoff role that Carpenter often occupies (including Saturday), a spot where he's slashing only .208/.318/.365 over 299 plate appearances.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Marlins' Harold Ramirez: Out of Sunday's lineup

Ramirez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Ramirez is 1-for-6 with a double and has been hit by two pitches through the first two games of the second half. Curtis Granderson will take over in left field and bat sixth in his absence Sunday.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Sitting out Sunday

Buxton (face/chest) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Indians.

Buxton exited late in Saturday's 6-2 win after he appeared to suffer a facial or chest injury while making a diving catch in the outfield. The Twins have been mum on the exact nature of Buxton's injury, but manager Rocco Baldelli described the 25-year-old's situation after Saturday's game as a "day-to-day" matter, per Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. Max Kepler will fill in for Buxton in center field in the series finale.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Scores twice in loss

Blackmon went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs Saturday in the Rockies' 17-9 loss to the Reds.

After reaching base just once in 15 plate appearances over his previous four games, Blackmon was able to get back on track in a classic Coors Field affair in which the two teams combined for 39 hits. The running game isn't a major part of Blackmon's skill set at this point, but his stellar batting average (.327), solid pop (20 home runs, 48 extra-base hits) and regular role as the Rockies' leadoff man still makes him a fantasy star.

  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

White Sox's AJ Reed: Starts second straight

Reed started at first base and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 13-2 loss to the Athletics.

The left-handed hitting Reed's been in the starting lineup for the two games since joining the White Sox, both coming against right-handed starters. He was the designated hitter Friday followed by Saturday's start at first base.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Delivers three extra-base hits

Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI in Saturday's 11-2 win over the Red Sox.

Turner was 3-for-21 in his last seven contests but busted out in Boston against Chris Sale. The veteran third baseman has battled numerous injuries throughout the season but is still slashing .295/.374/.460 with 11 home runs in 84 games.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Steals base, scores run

Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a stolen base, a run scored and a walk in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Mariners.

Ohtani drew the walk against Mariners reliever David McKay in the seventh inning, then stole second base and came around to score on a three-run blast by Albert Pujols. The designated hitter is having a strong season with a .298/.352/.556 line with 14 homers, five steals, 38 RBI and 30 runs scored in 55 games.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Exits game after catch

Buxton left Saturday's win following the eighth inning after landing hard on his face while making a catch, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Buxton stayed in the game to finish the inning but didn't come out for the ninth. He didn't appear to suffer an injury, but may have been dazed from the impact of the catch. According to Park, manager Rocco Baldelli indicated Buxton was being examined but had no specifics on what was bothering him.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Will sit in Game 2

Choi is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Considering Game 1 was Choi's first game back from an ankle injury and that the O's are trotting out a lefty (John Means) in Game 2, it is hardly surprising to see him sitting in the nightcap. Yandy Diaz starts at designated hitter while Nate Lowe starts at first base. Look for Choi to continue sitting against most lefties going forward.
