  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Not in lineup Wednesday

Brantley (shoulder) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Astros, Zach Meisel of Cleveland.com reports.

Brantley is dealing with a minor shoulder injury, and he'll be held out of the lineup Wednesday, as anticipated. The Indians are off Thursday, so Brantley will have an opportunity to get back on the field Friday coming off three full days of rest.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Goes deep twice at Angels

Carpenter went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

The 30-year-old now has four multi-hit games over his last five, and he has doubled his season home run total with three long balls in the last three games. Carpenter continues to bat leadoff for a Cards offense that ranks near the top of the league in most major categories, and his arrow is pointing up as we approach mid-May.

  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Likely out Wednesday

Brantley (shoulder) is out of the lineup Tuesday and is expected to sit Wednesday as well, Zack Meisel of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Per manager Terry Francona, Brantley's shoulder is still not bouncing back in ideal fashion. With a team off day Thursday, it sounds like Brantley will be afforded three full days to rest the shoulder with eye toward returning for this weekend's series against the Twins. Brantley turned in a four-hit game last week but is just 9-for-39 with two extra-base hits (both doubles) in 11 games since his return from the DL.

  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Sitting Tuesday

Brantley is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.

Brantley went 0-for-4 Monday, as he's struggled to the tune of a .231/.279/.282 slash line since returning from the disabled list. Jose Ramirez will draw another start in left field in his absence and bat sixth against Houston starter Chris Devenski.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Held out Tuesday

Cabrera (knee) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Nationals.

Cabrera jammed his knee in Monday's contest, and though he was expected to return to the lineup Tuesday without missing any time, it appears as though Detroit will exercise caution. Victor Martinez will take over at first base and with no DH option as the Tigers play in a National League park, Cabrera will head to the bench.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Lands on disabled list

Canha (back strain) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Canha dealt with a sore back early in spring training, but no further issues were reported until Monday. He has only started two games in May, and his at-bats will likely be divided between multiple players.

  • Bryce Harper 1B | PHI

Nationals' Bryce Harper: Facing fine or suspension

Harper may be fined or suspended for re-entering the field after he was ejected from Monday's game against the Tigers, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

Harper was ejected in the ninth inning for his vocal disagreement with a called third strike against a teammate. He then joined his team on the field following a walk-off homer a few minutes later, and he was seen yelling at the home-plate umpire during the celebration. Red Sox manager John Farrell recently escaped with a fine for a similar offense, but Harper's choice of words may lead to a brief suspension.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Homers in Tigers' loss

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's loss to the Nationals.

Martinez had been off to a putrid start to May, collecting just two hits in 27 at-bats prior to Monday. Monday's game could be a sign that Martinez is starting to come back to life, as the outfielder hit a robust .282 with 38 home runs a season ago. He's at .239 with four homers thus far this year.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Expects to play Tuesday despite minor injury

Cabrera is still expected to play Tuesday against the Nationals despite jamming his knee while sliding into second base during Monday's loss, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera never left Monday's game and ultimately went 1-for-3 with a walk. Although unlikely, Victor Martinez will likely play at first base if Cabrera is ultimately given the day off Tuesday.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Takes a seat Monday

Pederson is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Trayce Thompson will once again start in center field against a lefty as the Dodgers face Mets southpaw Steven Matz on Monday night.
