Mets infielder Justin Turner made a pinch-hit appearance Sunday against the Nationals after sitting out Saturday with a shoulder injury. He was hitless in his lone at-bat.

Phillies outfielder Darin Ruf had an RBI single, as he finished 2 for 4 with one run and one double Sunday at Detroit. Ruf has hit safely in six straight games, batting .333 (7 for 21) with one RBI and two doubles.

Ruf is batting .310 in 17 games since his recall from the minors. He has two home runs and four RBI.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton's go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning Sunday against the Pirates stood as the game-winning hit in a 3-2 victory. Stanton homered for the third time in seven games.

Stanton finished 2 for 3 with one double, one walk and two runs. He's batting .478 (11 for 23) with three home runs, five doubles, six RBI, seven runs and seven walks in his last seven games. Stanton was mired in a 10-for-57 slump in his first 16 July games prior to his latest seven-game run.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was ejected from Sunday's game against Philadelphia for arguing balls and strikes, MLB.com reports. Cabrera and manager Jim Leyland were tossed arguing a called strike in the third inning.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera made his presence felt at the dish as he homered in his first at-bat after returning from a hip injury Saturday night against the Phillies.

Cabrera took Raul Valdes deep for a solo home run in the first. He singled a run in the second and picked up his third RBI on a groundout in the fourth. He finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBI in a 10- victory. He has a .361/.455/.674 slash line with 32 homers and 99 RBI in 377 at-bats.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper looked to be in fine shape Saturday against the Mets, just one day after sitting out with a sore left knee. Harper went 2 for 4 in the game with a home run, his 15th of the season. Harper drove in two runs and scored one, in a 4-1 win. 

Harper has now homered twice in the last four days, after going 18 straight games without a home run. 

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera, who has been nursing a hip flexor and hasn't played since July 22, returned to the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Philadelphia. 

Detroit manager Jim Leyland was attempting to decide prior to the game if his slugger was ready to go and apparently decided to allow him to return. Cabrera got the start at third base. He's brings his .358 average, 31 homers and 96 RBI into Saturday's game. 

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is back in the lineup Saturday, after missing the second game of Friday's doubleheader with a sore left knee. Harper aggravated the knee making a sliding catch in the first game Friday, but it was never considered a serious issue. 

Harper is hitting first and playing left field against the Mets Saturday.

Mets infielder Justin Turner is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, after he injured his shoulder in Friday's game. Turner is considered day to day due to this injury.

He was hurt Friday during a first-inning collision with Andrew Brown. He eventually left the game.

"He's a little sore," manager Terry Collins said. "It just started to stiffen up on him, that's why I took him out."

Turner is batting .265 on the season for the Mets over 102 at-bats. That said, he's gone 5 for 25 (.200) over his last 13 games -- with a DL stint mixed in between -- and has made only three starts over that span.
