Brian O'Keefe C | SEA
Brian O'Keefe: Non-tendered by M's
The Mariners declined to tender O'Keefe a contract for 2023, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
O'Keefe served as a depth catcher at Triple-A for most of last season, seeing only brief action with the big club at the very end of the campaign. He has posted some interested numbers for a catcher during him time in the minors, but he's already 29. The clock is ticking.

Bligh Madris DH | STL
Tigers' Bligh Madris: Claimed by Detroit
The Tigers claimed Madris off waivers from the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Madris tried his best to make a name for himself during his brief time in the Rays organization (1.053 OPS, four homers in 10 games with Triple-A Durham), but it wasn't enough. The Tigers have decided to take a chance and will add Madris to the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old infielder figures to compete for a utility role in spring training.

Cooper Hummel LF | HOU
Mariners' Cooper Hummel: Traded to Mariners
Hummel was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Mariners in exchange for Kyle Lewis on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Hummel made his major-league debut in 2022 and slashed .176/.274/.307 with three homers, 20 runs, 17 RBI and four stolen bases over 66 games with the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old has displayed some promise in the minors and has the ability to serve as a catcher, outfielder and designated hitter. If Hummel makes the Mariners' Opening Day roster in 2023, he'll likely be forced to settle for a depth role since Seattle has plenty of talent behind the dish and in the outfield.

Kyle Lewis DH | ARI
Diamondbacks' Kyle Lewis: Dealt to Arizona
Lewis was traded from the Mariners to the Diamondbacks on Thursday in exchange for Cooper Hummel, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Lewis was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2020, but he appeared in just 54 major-league games over the last two seasons due to injuries and poor production. He slashed .215/.301/.366 with eight homers, 21 runs, 16 RBI and two stolen bases over that stretch but will now have a chance to get a fresh start with the potential to see more playing time in the big leagues with the Diamondbacks.

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Claimed by Oakland
Rooker was claimed off waivers by the Athletics on Thursday.
Rooker was designated for assignment by Kansas City on Tuesday but will land a spot on the Athletics' 40-man roster. He appeared in 16 major-league games between the Padres and Royals last year, and it's possible that he's forced to begin the 2023 season at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Bryce Harper DH | PHI
Phillies' Bryce Harper: Elbow surgery on tap
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Wednesday that Harper is scheduled to undergo elbow surgery Nov. 23 in Los Angeles, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Dombrowski said he's still unsure whether Harper will require Tommy John surgery or another type of procedure to repair the torn UCL in his right elbow, as a determination on that front won't be known until Harper's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, has a chance to evaluate the injury and provide a recommendation. Regardless of what kind of surgery Harper requires, Dombrowski said he doesn't expect it to "slow him down" whenever the 30-year-old is deemed ready to make his 2023 debut. Even if that's the case, Harper could still be limited strictly to designated-hitter duties to begin the upcoming season, and a potential Tommy John surgery would likely prevent the 30-year-old from playing the outfield until 2024. A more precise timeline for Harper's return to baseball activities won't be known until the surgery is completed next week.

Pederson accepted the Giants' $19.65 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Of the 14 players to receive qualifying offers, Pederson and Martin Perez were the only ones to accept. The 30-year-old lefty-hitting outfielder slashed .274/.353/.521 with 23 home runs and three steals in 134 games this past season. He will likely be regularly limited to strong-side platoon work.

Royals' Brent Rooker: Designated for assignment
Rooker was designated for assignment by the Royals on Tuesday.
A 28-year-old with plus right-handed power and limited defensive utility, Rooker has played for three teams in the past two seasons. It's possible he could try to land with another organization this offseason, otherwise he will likely return to Triple-A Omaha.
