The Astros designated Singleton for assignment Monday.

Singleton's stint with the big club lasted just one week, with the 33-year-old first baseman appearing in three contests and going 1-for-9 at the plate. Assuming Singleton clears waivers, he'll have the ability to elect free agency, though his familiarity with the Houston organization could compel him to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land with the hope of earning another look with the big club down the road.

Rice is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.

He had started in four of the Yankees' last five games, but Rice will give way to Paul Goldschmidt at first base as New York opens a four-game set with Tampa Bay. Rice has gotten off to a slow start to the second half, recording four hits (one home run, two doubles) in 24 at-bats through his first nine games.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Ohtani will make his next start as a pitcher Wednesday against the Reds in Cincinnati, Ken Powtak of the Associated Press reports. "Shohei is going to go on Wednesday and then he'll probably pitch the following Wednesday, so that probably lends itself to the six-man," Roberts said, in reference to his plan to expand the Los Angeles rotation from five starters.

The two-way phenom has made six starts since getting cleared for his Dodgers debut as a pitcher on June 16. After first completing two one-inning starts, Ohtani followed with a pair of two-inning starts, then worked three innings apiece in his last two outings. Assuming Ohtani's usage pattern holds, he'll likely be in line to cover four innings Wednesday, though Roberts indicated that the Dodgers won't have a designated pitcher to piggyback the right-hander like they had in each of his previous six outings. That said, with Blake Snell (shoulder) potentially in line to return from the 60-day injured list later in the week to give the Dodgers seven starting pitchers, Emmet Sheehan could be moved to the bullpen and may be tasked with covering multiple innings behind Ohtani on Wednesday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Stanton will begin taking defensive reps and could become an option in the corner outfield once Aaron Judge (elbow) returns from the 10-day injured list, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The Yankees are hopeful that Judge will be ready to return from the IL on Aug. 5, but because the two-time AL MVP won't be able to resume throwing for another 10-to-14 days, he'll initially be limited to designated-hitter duties once he's activated. Judge's eventual return will displace Stanton from the DH spot, but the Yankees will attempt to keep Stanton's bat in the lineup by using him in the outfield. Stanton hasn't made a start in the outfield since 2023 and has spent the majority of his tenure with the Yankees as a DH while he's contended with a slew of lower-body injuries in past years and a bout with tennis elbow in both arms earlier this season, but Boone doesn't believe that playing the field will compromise the 35-year-old's health. Even so, the Yankees may not be keen on having Stanton play the outfield on a full-time basis, so expect him to receive at least a couple days off per week when Judge is back in the fold at DH.

Bell went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over Minnesota.

The veteran first baseman might be on the trade block, and if so, Bell's doing his best to increase his value to a contender. Over 19 games in July, he's slashing .348/.434/.515 with five doubles, two homers, eight runs and nine RBI.

Pederson started at designated hitter and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 8-1 win over Atlanta.

Pederson rejoined the Rangers on Sunday following a two-month stay on the injured list with a broken hand. He returns at a time when Texas, winners of six consecutive games, is playing its best ball of the season. Pederson is expected to resume a role as the DH against right-handers but could also see time at first base.

Del Castillo started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Pirates.

Del Castillo continued to be a lineup regular at DH against right-handed starters (Paul Skenes on Sunday). He doesn't have one plate appearance against a southpaw. His playing time could take a hit when Pavin Smith (oblique) returns, but a healthy Smith might be needed to handle first base. Additionally, the Diamondbacks are clearly sellers heading into the trade deadline, which suggests the organization may give developmental plate appearances to prospects like Del Castillo over the final two months.

Trout went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mariners.

Trout capped off the Angels' four-run fifth inning with a massive 443-foot blast off Logan Gilbert, with the long ball including the 1,000th RBI of Trout's career. Though the 33-year-old has been able to serve as the Angels' everyday designated hitter since coming off the injured list May 30, he doesn't appear close to being ready to play in the outfield. According to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Trout said prior to Sunday's game that he hasn't taken part in outfield drills since the Angels' series with the Mets earlier in the week, after he experienced some soreness in his knee. He still plans to ramp up his outfield work once the knee soreness subsides, but the Angels may not be comfortable having him serve as anything other than a DH until late in the season.

Flores is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Flores had been included in the starting nine in both of the first two games of the series against his former team, but he'll be riding the pine for the series finale while another ex-Met (Dominic Smith) replaces him at first base. Rafael Devers is eventually expected to handle first base on a full-time basis, but Flores should stick in the lineup over Smith more often than not as the Giants' designated hitter.

Yoshida will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Yoshida will make his second straight start against a right-handed pitching, and he could begin to find himself in the lineup on a more frequent basis with Ceddanne Rafaela seeing more playing time at second base to cover for Marcelo Mayer (wrist), temporarily relieving Boston's logjam in the outfield/DH ranks.
