  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Gets breather Sunday

Martinez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Martinez has been in the lineup for every game since April 17, and with a team off day coming Monday, manager Alex Cora decided it was an optimal time to build in two days of rest for the veteran slugger, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. The extra maintenance should prove beneficial for Martinez, who has bounced back nicely after a down 2020 campaign. Through his first 45 games of the season, Martinez is slashing .328/.404/.592 with 12 home runs, 37 RBI and 38 runs across 198 plate appearances.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Yankees' Mike Ford: Launches third long ball

Ford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 7-0 win over the White Sox.

Ford mashed a massive 447-foot solo shot in the sixth inning to pad an already-substantial Yankees lead. The homer was Ford's third of the campaign and first since April 28. He went 1-for-26 between April 29 and May 16 but has shown improvement over his past three games, going 4-for-8 with a pair of walks.

  • Bryce Harper 1B | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Day off Sunday

Harper is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Harper is 0-for-16 with 10 strikeouts over the past four games, so he'll receive a day off Sunday to reset. Brad Miller will work in right field during the series finale versus Boston.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Lands on IL

Cleveland placed Reyes (abdomen) on the 10-day injured list Sunday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Reyes was sent in for an MRI after exiting Saturday's game against the Twins with a left abdominal strain, and while the extent of his injury still isn't known, Cleveland determined the 25-year-old was dealing with more than a day-to-day concern. Cleveland recalled outfield prospect Owen Miller from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move, and he could get the opportunity to play on a near-everyday basis while Reyes is on the shelf.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Knocks two extra-base hits

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and two strikeouts in Saturday's 6-2 loss to Oakland.

Ohtani was stranded on second after a two-out double in the sixth and brought home a run with his eighth-inning triple. His .320 on-base percentage is about average, but a .619 slugging percentage brings his OPS to .939, a mark that places Ohtani among the league leaders.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Laces two extra-base hits

Canha went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs in Saturday's 6-2 victory over the Angels.

Canha tripled and scored in the first before doubling and scoring in the third. His .381 on-base percentage is among the best in the league, and Canha recorded his ninth HBP, putting him in the league lead.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Clubs two-run homer

Blackmon went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Saturday's 7-6 win over Arizona.

The 34-year-old went deep for the first time since May 4 when he gave the Rockies a 5-3 lead with his two-run shot during the sixth inning. Blackmon has a .246/.342/.370 slash line with three home runs, 23 RBI and 16 runs through 42 games this season.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Power surge continues

Winker went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Brewers.

After slugging three homers Friday, Winker took Brett Anderson deep in the third inning Saturday to give the Reds a brief 2-1 lead. The 27-year-old now has 12 homers through 38 games -- matching his total in 54 contests last year -- and the weekend power display has pushed his slash line to .353/.412/.673.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Lines up to pitch Friday

Ohtani is tentatively scheduled to pitch Friday against the A's, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The 26-year-old surrendered two runs over 4.2 innings while showing slightly decreased velocity during his start Wednesday, so he'll receive a couple extra days before his next outing. Ohtani should continue to operate as the Halos' regular designated hitter in the meantime.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Dealing with abdominal strain

Reyes was diagnosed with a left abdominal strain after leaving Saturday's game against the Twins, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury on a swing during the sixth inning after popping a two-run homer earlier in the contest. The severity of the injury remains unclear since he's still undergoing medical imaging, but it wouldn't be a major surprise if Reyes requires a stint on the injured list.
