  • Felix Bautista RP | BAL

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Perfect for save No. 27

Bautista picked up the save in Saturday's 6-5 victory over the Rays. He struck out two over a perfect inning.

Saturday's outing marked Bautista's seventh time not allowing a hit over his last eight appearances (10.1 innings), while also collecting his 27th save of 2023. Through 44 games (48 innings), Bautista boasts the third-most saves in MLB while owning an elite 0.94 ERA and a 93:19 K:BB.

  • Clay Holmes RP | NYM

Yankees' Clay Holmes: Nabs 13th save

Holmes picked up the save Saturday against the Royals, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two over a scoreless inning.

Holmes entered the game with a three-run lead in the ninth and got MJ Melendez to go down on strikes in the first at-bat, followed by a groundout by Michael Massey. The right-handed reliever would then allow the next two batters to reach before finally shutting the door on the Royals with a strikeout to end the game, earning his 13th save in the process. Holmes has now converted his last two save attempts and lowered his season ERA to 2.27 with Saturday's scoreless appearance.

  • Athletics' Richard Lovelady: Shut down for season

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay announced Saturday that Lovelady (forearm) has been shut down for the remainder of the season, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Kotsay didn't provide any other information, but Lovelady's weekend visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache apparently didn't yield encouraging news regarding the reliever's recovery from a strained left forearm. The 28-year-old reliever finishes the 2023 campaign with a 4.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB in 23.1 innings.

  • Chad Smith RP | NYM

Athletics' Chad Smith: Back in big leagues

Smith's contract was selected by the Athletics on Saturday.

Smith owns a 6.75 ERA and 9:6 K:BB in 12 major-league innings this season, and his 7.88 ERA and 18.9 percent walk rate in 24 Triple-A frames doesn't paint an optimistic picture either. He'll presumably be limited to low-leverage situations and may not stick around once Angel Felipe returns from the paternity list.

  • Angel Felipe RP | LAA

Athletics' Angel Felipe: Goes on paternity list

The Athletics placed Felipe on the paternity list Saturday.

Felipe has allowed one run on two hits in 6.1 innings of relief this season, though his 6:4 K:BB paints a less encouraging picture of his performance. Chad Smith had his contract selected to take Felipe's place on the roster.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Astros' Hector Neris: Earns 20th hold

Neris two walks over a scoreless inning in Friday's 6-4 win over the Athletics. He didn't strike out or walk a batter.

Neris entered in the eighth inning with Houston leading 6-4. The veteran reliever walked the first two batters he faced before inducing a pop out and a double play to escape the frame. Neris has earned a hold in three of his last four appearances, allowing just one hit (a home run) and striking out five across four innings during that stretch.

  • Blue Jays' Genesis Cabrera: Could join bullpen Sunday

Cabrera will join the Blue Jays in Seattle and could be added to the 26-man active roster Sunday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Cabrera was acquired from the Cardinals via trade Friday, and he appears on track to head directly to the big-league club rather than going to the minors first. The left-hander holds a 5.06 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB over 32 innings in the majors in 2023.

  • Bryan Shaw RP | CIN

White Sox's Bryan Shaw: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

Shaw was designated for assignment Saturday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The 35-year-old reliever loses his 40-man roster spot with Joe Kelly ready to return from the injured list. Shaw allowed eight runs over 7.2 relief innings during his brief time with the White Sox.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

White Sox's Joe Kelly: Activated from injured list

Kelly (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Kelly wound up missing just a little over the minimum 15 days with right elbow inflammation. The veteran reliever holds a 4.82 ERA this season, although that's come with a 37:10 K:BB over 28 innings.

  • Mariners' Isaiah Campbell: Back in majors

Campbell was recalled from Double-A Arkansas on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Campbell was just sent down Wednesday but made a quick return with the Mariners needing a fresh bullpen arm. The rookie reliever has spun 3.2 hitless innings with six strikeouts in the majors this season.
