  • Ronel Blanco RP | HOU

Astros' Ronel Blanco: Solid in spot start

Blanco (2-1) took the loss Thursday versus the Mariners, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings.

It was a quality start for Blanco, his third such effort in six starts this season. Unfortunately for the right-hander, two of the hits he surrendered were home runs to Eugenio Suarez and J.P. Crawford, and the Astros' offense didn't offer much support. Blanco is now at a 4.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 48:24 K:BB over 46 innings through 15 appearances this season. It's unclear at this time if he'll be in the rotation -- or even on the big-league roster -- following the All-Star break.

  • Cody Bradford RP | TEX

Rangers' Cody Bradford: Likely to start Friday

Bradford will likely be the Rangers' starter Friday against Washington, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Assuming Bradford isn't needed out of the bullpen Thursday against Boston, he will make his fifth start of the season Friday. HIs start will push Andrew Heaney's next outing to Saturday, and Martin Perez's turn in the rotation will be skipped. Bradford holds a 4.98 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 21.2 innings this season.

  • Red Sox's John Schreiber: Beginning assignment over weekend

Manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Schreiber (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment this weekend, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

If all goes according to plan, Schreiber will be back to begin Boston's upcoming series with the Mets on July 21. The 29-year-old reliever has been on the shelf since May 15 with a right shoulder strain, and he put up a 2.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP through 17 innings before getting injured.

  • Zach Logue RP | LAD

Tigers' Zach Logue: Optioned to Triple-A

Detroit optioned Logue to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Logue has surrendered six earned runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings of relief this season in the majors. Alex Faedo (finger) will be activated from the injured list Friday as the Tigers' corresponding roster move.

  • Joe Barlow RP | TEX

Rangers' Joe Barlow: Loses roster spot

Barlow was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Barlow has been used some at closer by the Rangers the previous two seasons, but he hasn't found success this year with a 4.66 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He'll head to Round Rock and try to earn another shot.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Activated from injured list

Leclerc (ankle) was activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Leclerc missed the last two weeks of action with a sprained right ankle but was able to make a couple rehab appearances without issue. The 29-year-old should primarily work as part of the bridge to closer Will Smith.

  • Ronel Blanco RP | HOU

    Astros' Ronel Blanco: Officially promoted

The Astros recalled Blanco from Triple-A Sugar Land ahead of his start Thursday against Seattle.

Blanco was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday, but he'll come right back to the majors to make another start after Framber Valdez's (ankle) start was pushed back to Saturday and Cristian Javier's turn was skipped. Blanco holds a 4.70 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 23 innings across his last four starts. Jose Altuve (oblique) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Cody Morris RP | NYY

Guardians' Cody Morris: Recalled from Triple-A

Cleveland recalled Morris from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Morris will return to the Guardians' bullpen mix ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Royals. He's worked two scoreless innings of relief with no walks and three strikeouts this season at the MLB level.

  • Yankees' Anthony Misiewicz: Claimed by Yankees

The Yankees claimed Misiewicz off waivers from the Tigers on Thursday and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

After being designated for assignment by Detroit last week, Misiewicz will now join the Yankees' organization while remaining in Triple-A. The 28-year-old southpaw hasn't fared well in the majors or minors this season, but the slew of injuries within the Yankees' pitching staff could allow Misiewicz to join New York's bullpen at some point as a depth piece.

  • Chris Murphy RP | CHW

Red Sox's Chris Murphy: Deployed in bulk relief Tuesday

Murphy tossed 3.2 innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Rangers, giving up one run on five hits and one walk while striking out one.

Lefty Brennan Bernardino drew the start and covered 1.1 innings before the Red Sox turned the game over to five relievers to record the final 23 outs. Murphy ended up serving as the de facto bulk reliever, as none of Boston's other four bullpen arms notched more than four outs. Due to the depleted state of their rotation, the Red Sox don't have any obvious starting candidates for games Saturday or Sunday versus the Athletics, so there's a good chance that Murphy is called upon to cover multiple innings in one of those contests.
