White allowed one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out five batters over four innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Saturday.

The right-hander allowed multiple baserunners in three of his four innings, but he constantly navigated around traffic and yielded only one run. Altogether, White surrendered seven hits, but only one of those went for extra bases. He has now made three starts for Toronto since coming over from the Dodgers at the trade deadline, and he has yet to complete five innings in any of those outings. However, he's been decently effective, posting a 3.38 ERA and 10:4 K:BB across across 13.1 innings. That should be good enough for White to keep a spot in the rotation over Yusei Kikuchi, who was recently demoted to the bullpen.

Smeltzer was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

While Tyler Mahle (shoulder inflammation) is going to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move, Miller reports that Smeltzer is with the big club to pitch out of the bullpen against the lefty-heavy Rangers. Smeltzer has a 4.02 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 62.2 innings across 12 starts in the majors this season.

Payamps was claimed off waivers by the A's on Saturday.

He was designated for assignment by the Royals a couple days ago, but the A's had a spot for him on the 40-man roster. Payamps should report to the Triple-A bullpen for now. He has a 3.16 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 42.2 innings in the majors this year.

Snider was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

He has a 7.71 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 12:11 K:BB in 21 innings in the majors this year, and Snider had been at Triple-A for the last couple months. He should work in low-leverage situations.

Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

It seemed that Castillo had earned a spot in the rotation, but Thursday's outing against the Rays was apparently just a spot start. The rookie right-hander has a 2.53 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 21.1 innings across his six MLB appearances of two or more innings.

Taylor (elbow) left his rehab assignment for Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday after facing just two batters and throwing just 10 pitches, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Taylor has been out with elbow inflammation since early June. Friday's outing marked his third rehab appearance, but things didn't go well, as his fastball was sitting 89-90 mph, well below his season average of 92.6. Whether he's suffered a specific setback or just needs a bit more time to keep building up is not yet clear.

Honeywell (elbow) started Single-A Stockton's win over Lake Elsinore on Friday, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out one.

Honeywell encouragingly worked up to 31 pitches, 22 which found the strike zone, after topping out at 14 offerings in his rehab debut Tuesday. Assuming the right-hander experiences no residual setbacks from the increase in workload, he's slated to move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas next week, as per previous reports.

Brieske (forearm/biceps) is playing catch and doing well, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Brieske has been out since mid-July, first with forearm soreness and then with biceps tendinitis. He'll have the chance to return in September if he continues to trend in the right direction.

Holmes (back) played catch Saturday for the first time since he hit the injured list, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Holmes landed on the injured list Wednesday due to back spasms, but he's already able to throw again just three days later. That suggests his absence may not stretch much past the minimum 15 days, something the Yankees suggested was a possibility when he first hit the injured list.

Barlow (5-4) allowed a hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings to earn the extra-inning win Friday over the Rays.

Barlow's lone hit allowed came in the ninth inning, as Taylor Walls singled but was thrown out trying to advance to second. In the 10th, Barlow got more help from his defense, as initial runner Roman Quinn was caught attempting to steal third base. The tidy outing was Barlow's seventh scoreless one in August -- he's allowed just one run with a 12:2 K:BB through 10 innings this month. The Royals' closer has a 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB while adding 19 saves and five holds through 57.2 innings.
