Lopez (3-13) took the loss in Saturday's 16-2 rout at the hands of the Red Sox, coughing up seven runs on nine hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out one.

The right-hander had managed to avoid taking a loss in five straight starts coming into Saturday, although his 5.01 ERA over that stretch was hardly good. Boston quickly made it clear that modest streak would end with a four-run first inning. Lopez carries a 6.14 ERA with a 100:52 K:BB through 111.1 innings this season.

Farmer was designated for assignment Saturday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

This marks the second time this season that the Tigers designated Farmer for assignment, and it seems probable that he will once again remain in the organization. He has a 6.37 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 35.1 innings this season.

Rodriguez was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday with a right lat strain, Daniel Guerrero of MLB.com reports.

He was optioned to the minors Wednesday after starting one half of Tuesday's doubleheader, and it appears he suffered the lat injury either during that start or during a side session afterwards. Rodriguez was a strong candidate to return to the majors in short order, but now he should be considered out indefinitely.

Fairbanks (shoulder) felt good Saturday following his first bullpen session since hitting the injured list in late July, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Faribanks' exact return timeline remains unclear, but the latest news represents a step in the right direction. He's saved five games this season so far and could be in line for a handful more down the stretch, as the Rays dealt Diego Castillo to the Mariners at the deadline.

Canterino (elbow) returned from the injured list Saturday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Canterino had been out since May with a strained right elbow. Prior to suffering the injury, he'd looked great in four starts for High-A Cedar Rapids, allowing just two earned runs in 18 innings while striking out an incredible 51.5 percent of the batters he faced.

Chapman (elbow) is traveling with the Yankees on their current road trip, and the the team is hopeful that he can be activated when first eligible to come off the IL early next week, per MLB.com.

Chapman underwent an MRI last weekend, and the results showed no structural damage to his left elbow. As such, there is hope that the discomfort that sent him to the injured list is not an indication of a significant injury. Chapman's replacements have largely struggled since the veteran closer last pitched Aug. 5, with each of Chad Green, Jonathan Loaisiga and Zack Britton suffering at least one blown save over that span.

Lowther (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Lowther has been out since late July with a strained left shoulder. He's made five major-league appearances this season and seven in the minors, so it's far from guaranteed that he'll be called up once healthy.

Zimmermann (biceps) won't return Sunday as previously expected after spraining his ankle while exercising, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Biceps tendinitis has sidelined Zimmermann for more than two months. He was on the verge of a return before suffering the setback in a training-room accident. Exactly how serious of a setback the sprain is remains to be seen. Keegan Akin will get the nod Sunday against Boston.

Pearson (groin) will start for Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The righty isn't expected to have a long outing as he prepares to join Toronto's bullpen in the near future. In recent simulated games, Pearson has sat high-90's with his fastball, a sign that he's feeling good and may not need a ton of rehab work. The date of his next appearance should become clear after he recovers from Saturday's game.

The Rays designated Phillips for assignment Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Having pitched three innings Friday in his season debut, the 26-year-old heads to the minors to make room for a fresh arm in Adam Conley. Given his success during the three-inning save, Phillips could certainly find himself back with the Rays in a long-relief role before the season ends.
