Beeks was placed on the 45-day injured list with a left elbow sprain Wednesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Beeks was removed from Tuesday's contest against the Orioles with an elbow issue, and he'll miss the remainder of the season as a result. It's unclear whether he'll be ready for the start of the 2021 season. Ryan Sherriff was recalled by the Rays in a corresponding move.

Merryweather will start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Merryweather has made two appearances out of the bullpen recently, and he tossed 3.1 scoreless innings during that time while striking out six. It's unclear how long he'll be able to last in his first major-league start, but he's been effective as a reliever to begin his career in the majors.

Trivino, who fired two scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit and recorded three strikeouts in a win over the Rangers on Tuesday, has now put together six straight scoreless efforts.

Trivino's ERA stood at a bloated 9.00 following an Aug. 10 appearance during which he surrendered two runs, but the right-hander has been flawless from an earned-run perspective since then. The 28-year-old has fired eight scoreless frames across six appearances since that outing, putting together an 11:4 K:BB along the way. The stretch of effective performances has brought Trivino's ERA down to a solid 3.38, and it's featured what is arguably some of his best work since a stellar 2018 rookie campaign in which he secured 23 holds alongside a 2.92 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.

Harvey (elbow/forearm) is traveling with the team and hopes to be activated soon, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

He said he probably could have pitched through the forearm/elbow discomfort, as he was never in any sharp pain and was just dealing with discomfort, but the team wanted to be careful. Harvey has been facing hitters at the alternate training site but is now with the Orioles in St. Petersburg for the series against the Rays. It was reported a couple weeks ago that he could be activated before the end of August and that still seems like the timeline.

Shawaryn was outrighted and removed from Boston's 60-man player pool Wednesday.

He went unclaimed after being designated for assignment, but it's unclear exactly why the team opted to remove him from the player pool. It sounds like he does not factor into the team's long-term plans.

Gonsalves was outrighted to Boston's alternate training site.

The Yankees recalled Abreu from their taxi squad to serve as their 29th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Braves.

Cash reiterated Tuesday that Anderson was "doing well" since being shut down over the weekend with right forearm inflammation, but the skipper didn't specify whether the 30-year-old has resumed throwing. Assuming Anderson can at least complete a pain-free bullpen session within the next few days, he'll have a good chance at meeting his goal of an abbreviated stay on the IL. Anderson had been dominant at the back of the Tampa Bay bullpen prior to hitting the shelf, converting three saves while turning in a 0.54 WHIP and a 15:1 K:BB over 9.1 scoreless innings.

Barnes gave up two hits, including a solo home run, and struck out two in the ninth inning Tuesday to record his second save of the season in a 9-7 win over the Blue Jays.

The right-hander had a big enough cushion to withstand Teoscar Hernandez's blast, but this was still the second time in three appearances since taking over the closer role that Barnes has been scored upon. On the season, the right-hander has a rough 6.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB through 12 innings, and manager Ron Roenicke may look at other options in the ninth inning if Barnes continues to be shaky.

Hand earned the save against Minnesota on Tuesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning and notching one strikeout.

Hand had little trouble setting the Twins down in order to close out a two-run win. He tossed 10 of his 14 pitches for strikes en route to his eighth save of the season. The lefty trails only Liam Hendriks (nine) for the league lead.
