Beeks will serve as the Rays' bulk reliever behind opener Ryne Stanek in Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Beeks' recent form coupled with the matchup against the Marlins' MLB-worst offense (64 wRC+) make the lefty a strong streaming option even though he won't be deployed as a traditional starter. Over his last three appearances, Beeks has surrendered just one run on six hits and four walks while striking out 16 in 14.2 innings.

Rangers manager Chris Woodward is considering using Jurado as a starter, Robert Falkoff of MLB.com reports.

Jurado, a starter in the minors, was called up April 26 to help out in the Rangers' bullpen. "I think he will [start], actually," Woodward said. "And that might be his best role. If he can hold that stuff for 80 or 90 pitches, yeah. It's something we probably have to see at some point. There are some possibilities coming up that we might slot him in there." Jurado was part of the relief brigade that mopped up Tuesday's game in which starter Shelby Miller lasted just 1.2 innings. He'll probably need to get his pitch count up -- Jurado hasn't started since April 21 -- but the Rangers have a definite need in the rotation.

McHugh struck out four over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's 11-4 win over Detroit.

This was McHugh's second outing out of the bullpen and his most encouraging effort since mid-April. After a miserable stretch during which he posted an 11.44 ERA over 19.2 innings, he'll need to string together more outings like this to get back in the starting rotation. He was an effective reliever for Houston in 2018, but the Astros already have a strong, deep relief corps and could make better use of the 31-year-old right-hander as a starter.

Thornton (1-4) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up two runs on three hits and five walks over 5.2 innings while striking out seven in a 7-3 victory over the Giants.

The rookie right-hander had plenty of trouble finding the plate, tossing 57 of 102 pitches for strikes, but he generated 16 swinging strikes and would have emerged completely unscathed if not for a Pablo Sandoval homer in the third inning. Thornton will carry a 4.81 ERA and 46:21 K:BB through 43 innings into his next start Sunday, on the road against the White Sox.

Loaisiga (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Loaisiga was scratched from Monday's start and subsequently placed on the 10-day IL with the right rotator cuff strain and will be out through at least mid-July. The 24-year-old will be shut down from throwing for the next four weeks, so the move to the 60-day IL shouldn't significantly impact his already lengthy return timeline.

Soto will be recalled from Double-A Erie to start Wednesday against the Astros, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Soto will once again make the jump from Double-A to the majors after making his big-league debut in Saturday's doubleheader, which saw him allow seven runs on nine hits across four innings. The 24-year-old threw 88 pitches in that outing and will be on three days' rest, so he seems likely to have a lower pitch count Wednesday against Houston's explosive lineup.

Miller (1-3) took the loss Tuesday as the Rangers fell 11-5 to the Royals, surrendering eight runs on seven hits and two walks over only 1.2 innings while striking out one.

The right-hander's spot in the rotation seemed to be hanging by a thread coming into this game, and Kansas City took a blowtorch to it, scoring three two-out runs in the first inning before chasing Miller in the second. He now carries a 9.51 ERA and 20:23 K:BB through 29.1 innings, and Texas will have to seriously consider alternatives the next time his turn comes around Sunday.

Stanek will serve as the opener Wednesday against the Marlins, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Stanek will once again "start" for the Rays given he has excelled as an opener this season with a 1.72 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB over 15.2 innings (10 outings). Jalen Beeks is a likely candidate to enter as the bulk reliever after Stanek's inning or two.

Pagan pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one batter to earn his second hold of the season in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins.

Pagan recorded saves in three consecutive appearances in late April, but the right-hander hasn't been called on for a save chance since. He has recorded six scoreless outings since April 28, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out seven batters while allowing only three hits. For the season, the reliever has a 0.79 ERA and 0.44 WHIP.

Mejia (abdomen) was activated off the minor-league injured list Tuesday.

Mejia landed on the injured list April 23 with the abdominal strain and ended up missing three weeks of action. The 22-year-old will look to pick up where he left off for High-A Lynchburg after posting a 2.25 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB over three starts prior to the injury.
