  • Max Povse RP | SEA

Mariners' Max Povse: On DL with hamstring strain

Povse, who was being converted to a relief role at Double-A Arkansas, is on the minor-league DL with a hamstring strain, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

He will obviously return in the coming weeks from the hamstring injury, but the bigger news is that the Mariners are converting Povse to a bullpen role. In seven starts at Double-A he had logged a 3.82 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB in 35.1 innings. The Mariners famously converted Edwin Diaz from a starter to a reliever at Double-A last season, and he needed just 10 appearances out of the bullpen before he was promoted to the big leagues and began his dominant 51.2-inning run that cemented his status as a top-15 closer heading into this season. Povse's stuff isn't quite as electric, but he could move quickly now that he is being developed as a reliever.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Likely headed for DL

Andriese (groin) is expected to be placed on the 10-day disabled list, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Andriese exited Tuesday's start in the second inning with a mild groin strain and it appears he'll be sidelined for a stretch as he recovers. It's a tough loss for the Rays considering the right-hander's 3.45 ERA and 54:21 K:BB, but they have two off days within the next 10 days, so a replacement starter may not be necessary. Don't expect Andriese to miss more than one or two starts, though Austin Pruitt is projected to be recalled for bullpen depth during his absence.

  • Aaron Loup RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Aaron Loup: Earning more opportunities

Loup has a 2.37 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 19 innings this season.

The 29-year-old plays the role of situational lefty out of the Blue Jays' bullpen but still pitches full innings, and he has actually fared slightly better against right-handed hitters (.625 OPS) than lefties (.733 OPS). Loup has two wins and two holds in May and could see more of those opportunities, though his high WHIP is less than ideal.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Expected to be recalled

Pruitt is expected to be recalled by the Rays on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Pruitt began the season with the Rays to mixed results. He struggled out of the bullpen to an 8.83 ERA over 11 games, but threw three scoreless innings in a start against Baltimore. In the end, his 3.72 FIP indicated long-term potential and he earned his way back by posting a 1.04 ERA and a 0.46 WHIP over five relief appearances with Triple-A Durham. Look for the right-hander to be used primarily in low-leverage relief situations.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Records 14th save Tuesday

Kimbrel walked one and struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings Tuesday to pick up his 14th save of the season in a 13-7 win over the White Sox.

He entered the slugfest with runners on first and third and two outs as Boston clung to a four-run lead, but Kimbrel coolly got Jose Abreu to ground out and then mopped up in the ninth after the Red Sox tacked on a couple of insurance runs. It's been over a month since the right-hander allowed a baserunner to cross the plate, and Kimbrel has regained his spot this season as the game's preeminent closer.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Earns hold with two-inning appearance

Devenski allowed one hit over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Twins.

Devenski, who picked up his sixth hold of the season, protected the lead and helped make a winner of Mike Fiers, who managed to stave off a demotion to the bullpen. This was Devenski's first time pitching since last Friday. A couple weeks ago, his unorthodox usage pattern had him on pace to top 100 innings, so manager A.J. Hinch has made a conscious effort to manage the right-hander's innings. After averaging 2.1 innings per appearance in April, Devenski is down to 1.1 innings per outing during May.

  • Rangers' Nick Martinez: Awful in no-decision against Rays

Martinez went 4.1 innings in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay, giving up five runs on six hits -- including three homers. He struck out three and walked two.

This was his shortest outing of the season, but Martinez hasn't pitched more than five innings in any of his last three starts; he finished six frames in four of his first five. The problem with owning Martinez in fantasy is a rather straightforward one: He's too hittable. With a couple off days coming up on the schedule, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Rangers skip his next turn in the rotation.

  • Chih-Wei Hu RP | TB

Rays' Chih-Wei Hu: Optioned to Triple-A

Hu was optioned to Triple-A Durham after Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

After starter Matt Andriese left early with a groin injury, Hu came on in the second inning and logged 2.1 scoreless frames while walking two and striking out three. He would have been unavailable out of the bullpen for a couple days after this outing, so it made sense for the Rays to opt for reinforcements. Hu seems to be being developed as a reliever, at least in the short term, even though he has had success in the minors as a starter. Only three of his 12 appearances across Triple-A and the big leagues this season have come as a starter. He has allowed just eight runs (2.63 ERA) while striking out 25 across 27.1 total frames across the two levels.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Exits Tuesday with groin strain

Andriese left Tuesday's start against the Rangers with a mild groin strain.

He allowed two runs on three hits while recording just five outs before exiting. It is unclear how long Andriese will be sidelined, but the Rays have a plethora of options to replace him in the rotation, including Blake Snell, Jose De Leon, Jacob Faria, Brent Honeywell and Chih-Wei Hu, who replaced him in this game.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Leaves Tuesday with undisclosed injury

Andriese left Tuesday's start against the Rangers in the second inning with an apparent injury, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports.

He allowed two runs on three hits while recording just five outs before exiting. The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but his status will be updated when the team provides an initial diagnosis. Chih-Wei Hu, who replaced him in this game, along with Blake Snell, Jose De Leon, Jacob Faria and Brent Honeywell would all be options to replace Andriese in the rotation if he is forced to miss more time.
