  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Shuts down Rays to convert fifth save

Giles allowed a hit and struck out a batter during a scoreless ninth inning to record his fifth save of the season during Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.

Giles got himself into trouble during a series against the Mariners earlier this season, but he's been excellent otherwise and has now strung together four scoreless appearances with three saves. Houston boasts a potent offensive attack and is currently sporting a 13-6 record, so Giles projects to continue receiving plenty of opportunities to pile up tallies in the saves column.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Lasts just five innings against Astros

Andriese allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings during Sunday's loss to Houston. He did not factor into the decision.

The long ball did Andriese in Sunday, as the two home runs he surrendered accounted for all three runs he allowed. It's been an ongoing problem this year, too, as Andriese has been taken deep in each start and five times total through just 19 innings. With a 5.26 FIP and mediocre 7.9 K/9, it's probably best to view the 27-year-old righty as a matchup-based option. A date with the Blue Jays lines up next for Andriese, and considering Toronto's offensive struggles, he could be a potential low-priced flier in daily contests and streaming option in seasonal settings.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: Headed back to Triple-A

Boshers was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Sunday, Phil Miller of the Star Tribune reports.

Boshers was efficient in Sunday's game against the Tigers. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing no hits and only one walk. However, he'll return to Rochester where he's given up three runs over 3.2 innings (five games) this season.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Angels' Jesse Chavez: Lines up for two-start week

Chavez will make his next start Monday against the Blue Jays, Pedro Moura of the Orange County Register reports.

After limiting the Astros to one run over seven innings back on April 17, Chavez was initially scheduled to make his next turn in the rotation Sunday against the Blue Jays, but manager Mike Scioscia ended up going with Daniel Wright for that contest after Chavez was needed in relief during Friday's 13-inning loss. Chavez will now be in line for a two-start week, as he'll follow up his outing in Monday's series finale with another turn April 29 against the Rangers in Arlington.

  • Athletics' Kendall Graveman: Trending toward Thursday activation

Graveman (shoulder) looks on track to return from the disabled list ahead of Thursday's game against the Angels, John Hickey of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Graveman tossed a bullpen session Friday without much issue, but the Athletics want to see him throw again Monday before formally signing off on his return from the DL. Since starting pitchers typically receive two days of rest after bullpen sessions before taking their turn in the rotation, Graveman would be lined up for a start Thursday, assuming all goes well earlier in the week. The 26-year-old was off to a nice start before straining his shoulder, recording a 2.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Angels' Kirby Yates: Designated for assignment

The Angels designated Yates for assignment Sunday.

Yates was called upon in relief in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays in what was his team debut, but after serving up a pair of solo homers, the Angels determined they had seen enough from him. The lefty will report back to Triple-A Salt Lake in the likely event that he goes unclaimed off waivers. Brooks Pounders was recalled from Salt Lake in a corresponding move.

  • Zach Putnam RP | BOS

White Sox's Zach Putnam: Returns to full health

Putnam (elbow) is available to pitch Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Putnam had to leave Saturday's game after feeling tenderness in his elbow. It appears that his departure was precautionary as he's available if needed Sunday. Putnam has been a reliable bullpen arm this season as he's allowed just one run over 8.2 innings (seven games) and has struck out nine batters.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Fires inning in non-save situation Saturday

Diaz pitched a scoreless eighth in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Athletics, issuing a walk.

The closer got some action despite the non-save situation, with manager Scott Servais opting to deploy him after he hadn't seen any work since April 16. With the Mariners' offense underperforming overall thus far this season, save opportunities have been at a premium for Diaz, who's made six appearances and is 2-for-3 in save chances while also notching a win.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Impressive multi-inning outing Saturday

Pruitt (2-0) pitched 2.1 perfect innings in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Astros, notching a pair of strikeouts.

Pruitt was dominant over his time on the mound, firing 16 of his 20 pitches for strikes and notching first-pitch strikes to all but one of the seven batters he faced. The 27-year-old righty has validated the trust manager Kevin Cash showed in him despite a rocky first five outings, allowing just one earned run over 6.2 innings in his last three appearances.

  • Buddy Boshers RP | HOU

Twins' Buddy Boshers: Recalled from Triple-A Rochester

Boshers was recalled Sunday from Triple-A Rochester, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Boshers had thrown just 3.2 innings at Triple-A, allowing three earned runs. The 28-year-old has been a career minor-league journeyman, but appeared to turn things around in 2016 with improved control. Still, don't expect the Twins to count on him in high-leverage situations out of the bullpen.
