  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Notches sixth save against Athletics

Giles picked up his sixth save with a perfect ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Athletics.

Since taking over the closer's role August 9, Giles is five-of-five in save opportunities (he cleaned up one game May 26 against Baltimore as well). He owns a 3.38 ERA in eight innings over that span, but his 12:1 K:BB, bolstered by two strikeouts Tuesday night, is a good sign that he can keep up this successful run.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Strikes out five over six shutout innings against Athletics

McHugh (9-10) threw six shutout innings and allowed just four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in the win Tuesday against Oakland.

McHugh logged his first quality start since August 8 and his first start with fewer than three runs allowed since July 23. He was downright nasty Tuesday night, as he induced 20 swinging strikes on 102 pitches and allowed just one baserunner to even get past second base. McHugh has had a major struggle with the home run ball this year, with four multi-homer starts and 23 total homers allowed in 27 starts. Until he figures that out, starts like this will be few and far between.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Rebounds for 29th save

Colome allowed a walk and a single but survived to throw a scoreless ninth for his 29th save of the season in a 4-3 win over the powerful Red Sox.

Colome had runners on first and second when he struck out Boston catcher Sandy Leon on a 88 mph back-door slider for the final out. In his last outing, Colome imploded for his second blown save of the season, coughing up home runs to the first two batters he faced, the second of which was a walk-off. Still, Colome has had a stellar 2016 campaign overall, with a 2.11 ERA and an impressive 60 strikeouts in 47 innings.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Denied win in quality start

Pomeranz threw 6.2 solid innings Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight, taking a no-decision.

Pomeranz was cruising through six innings, having allowed just one run on three hits entering the seventh. He managed two outs in the seventh before serving up a game-tying home run to Luke Maile, at which point he was yanked by manager John Farrell. Pomeranz has posted a solid 2.70 ERA over six August starts, yet has just two wins to show for it, disappointing considering the Red Sox lead the AL in runs by a mile with 716. Pomeranz now has an even 3.00 ERA on the season, and although he's earned just two wins since joining the Red Sox in mid-July, there is reason to expect an improvement in the win-loss column given the Red Sox prolific offense.

  • Tigers' Warwick Saupold: Charged with assault following weekend altercation

Saupold was arrested early Sunday and charged with assault following an altercation outside a Toledo bar. He was released on a bond and pitched the next day.

Toledo police reported Saupold was drinking with two other minor league players from the Pirates system when a disagreement with an another man escalated into a large fight. Police attended the scene and all four men were arrested. The Tigers have not suspended Saupold and have indicated the team will let the legal system take its course. Saupold started Monday for the Mud Hens and pitched five scoreless innings for his seventh win of the season. He allowed six hits.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Escapes inefficient outing with no-decision Tuesday

Norris (2-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four in Tuesday's game against the White Sox. He did not factor in the decision.

Working deep into games has been an issue for the left-hander throughout his short career, and Tuesday was no different as Norris needed a season-high 105 pitches to escape with a decent line intact after five shaky innings. In eight starts this year, the 23-year-old owns a respectable 3.86 ERA but an awful 1.61 WHIP through 39.2 innings. Norris' inability to command his pitches (33:14 K:BB) will continue to run up his pitch count and limit his fantasy appeal in mixed leagues. He'll get another crack at the White Sox in his next start Monday.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Won't start Sunday

Manaea (back) will not make his next scheduled start Sunday versus the Red Sox, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

At this point in time, Oakland has yet to say if they'll push Manaea's start a couple days or skip over him for an entire rotation. Information regarding his eventual return and temporary replacement should be known in the coming days.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Set to throw Wednesday

May (back) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.

The club had planned to have May throw a bullpen session Friday, but his workout will now be a couple days earlier. Before getting placed on the DL on Aug. 10, May had built a 4.89 ERA and 1.25 WHIP after pitching 42.1innings over 43 games.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Yankees' Kirby Yates: Optioned to Pulaski

Yates was optioned to Rookie-level Pulaski on Tuesday.

With Chasen Shreve headed up to the big leagues, New York opted to send Yates down to Pulaski. Yates has struggled with the Yankees, as his ERA and WHIP are sitting at 5.40 and 1.43, respectively. However, with Rookie-level seasons ending soon, Yates could return to the the Yankees shortly after rosters expand on September 1.

  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Fires pair of strong innings Monday

Farquhar fired two innings of scoreless ball in Monday's loss to the Red Sox, giving up one hit and striking out two.

The 29-year-old has been very solid in his most recent tour of duty with the Rays and now has back-to-back two-inning scoreless outings. Farquhar has not allowed a run in five of his last six appearances overall, with an impressive 14 strikeouts in the eight innings over that span.
