Bryan Shaw RP | CIN
Indians' Bryan Shaw: Key cog in Cleveland's bullpen
Shaw allowed four runs over 14.1 innings with 13 strikeouts and nine walks during July.
All of those runs came on July 18 against Kansas City. Take out that showing and Shaw has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings as the setup man for the Indians. However, the addition of Andrew Miller could hinder Shaw's hold opportunities moving forward this season.

Tommy Layne RP | STL
Red Sox's Tom Layne: Designated for assignment Tuesday
Layne has been designated for assignment, ESPN's Scott Lauber reports.
The Red Sox DFA'd Layne and Michael Martinez to make room for top prospect Andrew Benintendi and deadline acquisition Fernando Abad. The latter is a left-handed reliever, which made the 31-year-old Layne (also a southpaw) expendable.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Takes over as closer
Diaz will replace Steve Cishek as the Mariners' closer, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Cishek has struggled trying to close out games lately, so manager Scott Servais decided it was time for a change at the back end of the bullpen and will go with Diaz next time the Mariners need to lock up a win. Diaz has appeared in just 24 big-league games, but owns an eye-popping 17.6 K/9 rate and has allowed just five earned runs over that span, so he could close the rest of the way if he proves the ninth-inning role isn't too big for him.

Craig Kimbrel RP | KC
Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Picks up save in return from DL
Kimbrel struck out three while walking one to pick up his 18th save Monday in Seattle.
Kimbrel was thrust into action on his first day off the DL after being sidelined since July 9 with a torn meniscus, but got the job done by striking out Shawn O'Malley with the tying run on second. This effort comes in stark contrast with the performance of Mariners counterpart Steve Cishek, who allowed the winning run in the top of the frame after entering in a tie game.

Dellin Betances RP | LAD
Yankees' Dellin Betances: Earns first save in extras against Mets
Betances picked up his first save as he worked around a hit to finish off the Mets on Monday.
Betances's first save opportunity since the trades of Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller came in extra innings. He didn't make it easy -- he threw six balls against eight strikes and gave up a double to James Loney -- but he recorded a strikeout and escaped unscathed. His K:BB is up to a ridiculous 90:16 over 51.1 innings, and given his ability to rack up whiffs, he should do just fine as closer.
-
Bo Schultz RP | PIT
Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Returns with scoreless inning in relief
Schultz worked a clean eighth inning, inducing three groundouts, Monday against the Astros.
Schultz, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo prior to the game, fared much better Monday than he did in his previous big league outing July 25, when he gave up two runs while recording just one out. With Franklin Morales designated for assignment, Schultz may get a chance to stick around for the home stretch if he pitches well. However, he isn't typically called upon in high-leverage situations, so his fantasy value is minimal.

Ryan Garton RP | SEA
Rays' Ryan Garton: Will be recalled Tuesday
Garton will be recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.
Garton takes the place of Matt Moore on the roster and will likely serve as bullpen depth. He has compiled a 1-0 record and a 5.17 ERA through 15 games with Tampa Bay this season, his first in the majors. The right-hander figures to return to his role as middle-inning relief help.

Joe Kelly RP | LAD
Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket
Kelly was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
The Red Sox activated Craig Kimbrel from the DL on Monday, necessitating a move to free up a spot on the 25-man roster. Kelly will be the casualty after appearing in nine games (six starts) and amassing an unsightly 7.62 ERA across 26.0 innings. The 28-year-old will look to get things straightened out at Pawtucket before a potential return to Boston later in the year.

Craig Kimbrel RP | KC
Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Activated from DL
Kimbrel (knee) was activated from the 15-day DL on Monday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
Although he did not fare well during his rehab appearance Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket, Kimbrel held up physically and should immediately reprise his role as the closer in Boston, providing a much-needed boost to the bullpen. Kimbrel's activation falls at the short end of the initial 3-to-6-week timetable provided after he was diagnosed with a left medial meniscus tear on July 9.
