Bowden Francis RP | TOR
Blue Jays' Bowden Francis: Struggles in long relief
Francis allowed four runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts across 3.1 innings against the Orioles on Tuesday.
Francis was activated from the 15-day IL leading up to the contest and was expected to follow Trevor Richards in bulk relief. Instead, he was the third Blue Jays pitcher to take the mound, taking over for Genesis Cabrera midway through the third inning. Frances was tormented by Ryan Mountcastle, surrendering a three-run home run and a two-run home run to the Orioles' first baseman. While Toronto is hoping for Francis to take the fifth rotation spot vacated by Alek Manoah (elbow), Francis didn't do much to prove that he's worthy of the role Tuesday.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Tigers' Shelby Miller: Effective in return
Miller (elbow) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Rangers.
Miller was reinstated from the injured list before the game after being sidelined since May 13 due to right ulnar nerve inflammation, and the Tigers wasted no time getting him back into the thick of things. The righty didn't seem to skip a beat, as he retired his four batters on just 17 pitches to secure his fourth hold of the season. Miller figures to remain a high-leverage reliever for Detroit as long as he's healthy, giving him a chance to rack up more holds and possibly an occasional save.

Nick Hernandez RP | ATH
Astros' Nick Hernandez: Traded to Houston
The Padres traded Hernandez to the Astros on Tuesday in exchange for cash, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Hernandez made his MLB debut in 2023 with San Diego, allowing four runs in three innings across two appearances. He re-signed with the team on a minor-league deal during the offseason and has since posted a 1.90 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 23.2 innings at Triple-A El Paso. He'll now return to the organization that drafted him back in 2016 and could earn a call back up to the big leagues if he continues to find success in Houston's farm system.

Chris Martin RP | TEX
Red Sox's Chris Martin: Bound for IL
The Red Sox will place Martin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to an unspecified issue, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
The Red Sox had attempted to place Martin on the injured list Tuesday, but MLB was unable to process the transaction before the beginning of Boston's game versus Atlanta. The team hasn't provided an updated diagnosis for the right-hander, but more information will come Wednesday once the move becomes official.

Nick Sandlin RP | LAA
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Working as opener Wednesday
Sandlin will serve as the Guardians' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Logan Allen had been in line to start Wednesday's contest, but the Guardians will instead make him available out of the bullpen while Sandlin handles the first inning or two. The 27-year-old right-hander owns a 2.77 ERA and 0.77 WHIP through 26 innings on the season and will be making the first start of his professional career Wednesday.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Tigers' Shelby Miller: Officially activated
The Tigers reinstated Miller (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.
Miller has been sidelined since May 13 due to right ulnar nerve inflammation in his right elbow. He threw 2.1 scoreless frames while striking out three batters and walking one during his two-game rehab assignment, though the 33-year-old right-hander has not been nearly as effective this season as he was in 2023, posting a 4.41 ERA through 16.1 innings. Mason Englert was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.
-
Mason Englert RP | TB
Tigers' Mason Englert: Optioned to Toledo
The Tigers optioned Englert to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Englert has given up three earned runs in six innings since coming up from Triple-A in late May, but he will now return to Toledo in order to make room for Shelby Miller (elbow), who was activated from the IL on Tuesday. Englert owns an impressive 2.35 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 23 innings with the Mud Hens, and he could be the first choice to return to Detroit if the Tigers run into further depth problems in their bullpen.

Sean Newcomb RP | CHW
Athletics' Sean Newcomb: Reinstated from IL
The Athletics reinstated Newcomb (knee) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Newcomb has been on the injured list all season due to irritation in his left knee, but he has now been given the green light to return to Oakland's bullpen after making four rehab appearances. The 30-year-old southpaw gave up two earned runs in six innings during his assignment but will likely be given low-leverage opportunities as he gets used to facing big-league hitters once again. Brady Basso was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Chris Martin RP | TEX
Red Sox's Chris Martin: Could be headed to IL
Martin (undisclosed) could be placed on the injured list prior to Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
It's not clear exactly what injury Martin is dealing with. He last pitched May 30, giving up three runs on a couple home runs. If a roster move is indeed made, Martin is expected to be replaced by Zack Kelly.

Zack Kelly RP | BOS
Red Sox's Zack Kelly: Getting promoted
The Red Sox plan to call up Kelly from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Boston optioned Kelly to the minors May 26, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the team in fewer than the minimum 15 days with Chris Martin (undisclosed) set to be placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. In 16.2 innings of relief with Boston, Kelly owns a 2.16 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.
