  • Josh Sborz RP | TEX

Rangers' Josh Sborz: Beginning rehab assignment

The Rangers assigned Sborz (shoulder) to Double-A Frisco on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.

The right-hander has been on the shelf with a rotator cuff strain since April 7, and he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment since it's been a relatively brief absence. Sborz made three appearances prior to the injury and struck out three without allowing a run over 2.2 innings.

  • Lucas Erceg RP | KC

Athletics' Lucas Erceg: Earns first win Monday

Erceg (1-1) earned the win against the Yankees on Monday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a walk and recorded a strikeout.

Erceg took the baton from starter JP Sears, who stymied his former Yankees squad over six shutout, three-hit innings. Erceg didn't miss a beat, locating 17 of his 26 pitches for strikes and serving as a bridge to a rare save opportunity for Mason Miller in the ninth inning. The right-hander now has five consecutive scoreless appearances, a span during which he's fired six scoreless frames while recording six strikeouts.

  • Owen White RP | CHW

Rangers' Owen White: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned White to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

White was up with the big club for just a few days and did not make an appearance. He's clearing out to make room for Jonathan Hernandez's return from the injured list.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Hernandez: Activated from injured list

The Rangers activated Hernandez (lat) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Hernandez got a late start to the season due to a right lat strain but is ready to roll now after allowing just three runs with a 14:4 K:BB over 10 rehab innings with Triple-A Round Rock. The righty could eventually work his way into high-leverage situations but will probably be used earlier in games initially.

  • Craig Kimbrel RP | NYM

Orioles' Craig Kimbrel: Secures sixth save

Kimbrel earned a save against the Angels on Monday, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two batters over one scoreless inning.

Kimbrel ran into some trouble in attempting to protect Baltimore's two-run ninth inning lead when he allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base. A one-out walk -- Kimbrel's first free pass of the campaign -- loaded the bases for Los Angeles, but the veteran closer got Nolan Schanuel to pop out before striking out Mike Trout looking to slam the door closed in dramatic fashion. Kimbrel is now 6-for-7 in save opportunities this season, and he's allowed just one earned run over 10 frames while racking up an impressive 16:1 K:BB.

  • Jordan Romano RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Jordan Romano: Picks up save

Romano allowed a run on one hit in one inning Monday. He struck out one batter and earned a save over Kansas City.

Romano coughed up a solo homer to Kyle Isbel but still finished off the 5-3 victory. Romano has converted each of his three save chances since returning from the injured list April 16. Through four appearances, he's given up two runs and has yet to walk a batter.

  • Mason Miller RP | SD

Athletics' Mason Miller: Fans side for fifth save

Miller tossed a clean ninth inning, striking out all three batters he faced to pick up his fifth save during Monday's 2-0 win over the Yankees.

Miller needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side and finish off the listless Yankees. The game was scoreless through eight, but a Zack Gelof two-run homer gave the A's the lead in the top of the ninth, allowing Miller the opportunity to close out his fifth save. All five saves have come in Miller's last five appearances as he's put a stranglehold on the ninth-inning role for Oakland. The effort dropped his ERA to 1.80 and his WHIP to 1.00 while lifting his strikeout rate to 18.0 K/9.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

White Sox's John Brebbia: Activated from IL

The White Sox activated Brebbia (calf) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Brebbia wound up missing just over the minimum 15 days with a right calf strain. He should be used in high-leverage spots out of the White Sox bullpen but is probably well behind Michael Kopech in the pecking order for saves.

  • Pete Fairbanks RP | MIA

Rays' Pete Fairbanks: Lands on IL with nerve issue

The Rays placed Fairbanks on the 15-day injured list Monday with a nerve-related issue, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

The Rays haven't provided any further details regarding the injury at this time, but it would appear unrelated to the stomach issue that had idled Fairbanks over the weekend. A timetable for the reliever's return could become clearer in the coming days as more is known about his condition. Jason Adam should be first in line for saves in the Rays bullpen sans Fairbanks, though it's possible manager Kevin Cash uses more of a committee approach to the ninth inning.

  • Kevin Kelly RP | TB

Rays' Kevin Kelly: Back with big club

The Rays recalled Kelly from Triple-A Durham on Monday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Kelly had been optioned to Durham on Thursday, but he'll be eligible to return to the Rays less than a week later after Tampa Bay placed closer Pete Fairbanks (nerve-related condition) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Though the loss of Fairbanks creates a vacancy at the back end of the bullpen, Kelly is more likely to work in the middle innings during his time with the big club. Kelly has previously made four relief appearances for Tampa Bay this season, giving up four earned runs on six hits and one walk over 4.2 innings.
