The Diamondbacks optioned Nelson to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

After giving up two runs in two-plus innings and collecting his first big-league save following his call-up from Reno last Friday, Nelson will return to the minors to open up a spot in the bullpen for Casey Kelly, who was called up from Triple-A. Nelson owns a 6.08 ERA through 23.2 innings in the minors, though the amount of injuries in Arizona's bullpen keeps the door open for him to return to the big club before the end of the season.

The Diamondbacks selected Kelly's contract from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Kelly has spent the entire 2025 campaign at Reno, where he owns a 5.82 ERA and 1.71 WHIP alongside a 42:33 K:BB through 85 innings. Despite his uninspiring numbers, the 35-year-old will join the Arizona bullpen to provide a fresh arm while Kyle Nelson heads down to Triple-A. Kevin Ginkel (shoulder) was moved to the 60-day injured list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Kelly.

Santana (3-4) took the loss against the Giants on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits over 1.1 innings. He did not record a walk or a strikeout.

Santana was charged with a blown save after allowing an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, then gave up two more runs in the ninth. In three appearances since David Bednar was traded to the Yankees, the 29-year-old Santana has surrendered seven earned runs and taken two losses. Despite the rough patch, he still owns a stellar 2.57 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 39:11 K:BB across 49 innings and should remain the primary option for saves in Pittsburgh.

Rodriguez threw a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Pirates. He did not record a strikeout.

Rodriguez was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 13 pitches to shut the door. It was an encouraging bounce-back after he allowed two runs and suffered his first blown save in the closer role Monday. On the year, the 25-year-old owns a 1.51 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 64:11 K:BB with three saves and 13 holds across 47.2 innings.

The Nationals optioned Lara to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

He'll head back to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Cade Cavalli, who was called up from Rochester in advance of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Athletics. During his latest stint in Washington, Lara made eight relief appearances and yielded 15 runs (14 earned) on 26 hits and eight walks over 11.1 innings. The 22-year-old righty could get stretched back out as a starter upon reporting to Rochester.

Scott (elbow) completed a bullpen session Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Scott threw off a mound for the first time since he landed on the 15-day injured list two weeks ago due to left elbow inflammation. The Dodgers haven't revealed the next step for Scott, but he could be ready to face hitters soon and perhaps head out on a rehab assignment.

The Pirates claimed Little off waivers from the Dodgers on Wednesday and assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pittsburgh had two open spots on its 40-man roster, and Little had three minor-league options left, so putting in a waiver claim for the 27-year-old reliever amounted to a low-risk move for the organization to burnish its bullpen depth. Little made two appearances at the big-league level for the Dodgers but had otherwise spent the entire season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, with whom he logged a 4.64 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB in 42.2 innings.

Waldrep will probably make another start for Atlanta during a doubleheader Saturday against the Marlins, Rick Farlow of MLB.com reports. "We have a doubleheader coming up at the end of the week," manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday. "We'll see how we get there. I think after [Waldrep's performance in the MLB Speedway Classic on Sunday], we will see him."

The first-round pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft gave Atlanta 5.2 strong innings in his season debut for the club Sunday, five days after tossing seven scoreless frames for Triple-A Gwinnett in his best outing of the minor-league campaign. Waldrep has been coming on strong for Gwinnett, posting a 1.99 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB over his last seven starts and 40.2 innings, and with Atlanta's pitching staff in tatters, another good effort against Miami this weekend could earn him a much longer look in the majors. At the moment, Atlanta is trying to get through the rest of the season with veteran retreads Carlos Carrasco (5.68 ERA) and Erick Fedde (5.32 ERA) rounding out the rotation, but that duo has no place in the team's future plans.

The Mets recalled Hagenman from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Hagenman has made three starts and one relief appearance for the Mets this season, allowing eight runs (seven earned) with a 13:1 K:BB over 12.1 frames. The right-hander will provide the Mets bullpen with some length during his latest stint in the majors.

The Mets optioned Hamel to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Hamel was up with the Mets for two days but didn't make his MLB debut. He'll be replaced on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen by right-hander Justin Hagenman, who was recalled from Syracuse.
