  • Devin Smeltzer RP | MIA

Marlins' Devin Smeltzer: Designated for assignment

Smeltzer was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Johan Quezada will join the club in a corresponding move. Smeltzer, 27, had struggled to a 6.75 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB through 12 innings this season with Miami after performing pretty well in a swingman role last year with the Twins. He could draw interest on waivers.

  • Tony Santillan RP | CIN

Reds' Tony Santillan: Transferred to 60-day IL

Santillan (back) was transferred to the 60-day injured list by the Reds on Friday.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Matt Reynolds. Santillan was on a rehab assignment from a back injury earlier this month when he suffered a knee injury. It's not clear how long he'll be out, but he's now not eligible for activation for another month.

  • A.J. Puk RP | ARI

Marlins' A.J. Puk: Earns second win

Puk (2-0) earned the win in Thursday's 5-4 victory over Atlanta, striking out one in a scoreless inning.

The Marlins brought Puk into the game in the eighth inning down 4-0, getting their closer some work as he hadn't pitched since Saturday. However, the southpaw would end up with the win after the Marlins rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the frame. The 28-year-old has been solid early in the season, allowing just one run in 10 innings while going 4-for-4 in save chances with a 0.80 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB. Puk seems to have locked down the closing role in Miami.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Scoreless rehab appearance

Iglesias (shoulder) struck out one over a perfect inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports.

Iglesias threw eight of 12 pitches for strikes in what looked to be a sharp showing on paper, although his velocity was down across the board, per Baseball Savant. It's not clear how many rehab appearances Atlanta will ask Iglesias to make, but the club will get him back soon. Whether Iglesias will be immediately thrown back into the ninth inning remains to be seen, but A.J. Minter's struggles in the role will encourage a quick return to closing duties for the right-hander.

  • Mets' David Robertson: Grabs fifth save

Robertson picked up the save Thursday against the Nationals. He struck out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Robertson secured his first save in 11 days Thursday, holding the Nationals hitless for a second straight time. The dry spell was a result of a four-game skid by the Mets, dropping a pair of games to the Giants and to the Nationals before Thursday's victory. However, Robertson is tied for eighth in the league in saves this season and has allowed just one run and five hits over 11.1 innings.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Cubs' Brad Boxberger: Picks up second save Thursday

Boxberger worked around a walk to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Padres.

Outside of allowing three runs in a rough appearance Saturday, Boxberger has been pretty solid, and he now has a 3.60 ERA and a team-leading two saves. Michael Fulmer has struggled with a 7.84 ERA and 1.84 WHIP, so it seems like Boxberger could be pulling away in the battle for closing duties. The veteran righty is certainly the Chicago reliever to target in fantasy at the moment, and he gets a boost with the Cubs playing well at 14-10.

  • Dylan Floro RP | ARI

Marlins' Dylan Floro: Earns first save

Floro picked up the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over Atlanta, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

A.J. Puk, the Marlins' regular closer, pitched the eighth inning Wednesday, giving Floro the opportunity in the ninth. He responded by setting down Atlanta in order, sealing Miami's comeback victory. It was a strong bounce-back outing for Floro after he allowed four runs (three earned) in one-third of an inning Wednesday. He's now 1-for-2 in save opportunities this season with a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB. Puk seems to have a fairly firm grasp on the closing job, though Floro appears to be the next man up.

  • A.J. Minter RP | NYM

Braves' A.J. Minter: Stunned by Miami

Minter (1-3) took the loss in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins. He allowed five runs on five hits while striking out two over two-thirds of an inning.

Minter entered the ninth inning with a 4-0 lead. He'd ultimately surrender five runs on five hits en route to a 5-4 loss. Minter has struggled mightily recently, allowing 10 earned runs in his last 3.2 innings. His ERA is up to 8.53 with a 1.42 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB while going 5-for-7 in save opportunities. Minter was likely to lose the closing role with Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) nearing a return, though his recent performance may force Atlanta to expedite a change in the back of their bullpen.

  • Sean Nolin RP | MIA

Marlins' Sean Nolin: Outrighted to Triple-A

Nolin was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Thursday.

Miami designated Nolin for assignment Tuesday, and he passed through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old left-hander owns a career 6.34 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 37:28 K:BB across 61 innings at the major-league level.

  • Craig Kimbrel RP | NYM

Phillies' Craig Kimbrel: Grabs third save

Kimbrel struck out two in an inning Thursday, earning the save against the Mariners in a 1-0 victory.

Kimbrel capped the Phillies' shutout win with a perfect ninth inning, earning his third save of the season. After a rocky start to the season, Kimbrel has gone eight straight appearances without allowing a run, lowering his ERA to 4.09 with a 1.27 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB. Still, it's hard to rely on Kimbrel as a source of saves, despite his recent success, while he splits ninth-inning duties with Jose Alvarado.
