  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Mets' Dennis Santana: Designated for assignment

Santana was designated for assignment by the Mets on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Santana earned a win in relief Friday against the Athletics, but he had surrendered six earned runs on seven hits and five walks through 7.2 total innings this season. The 27-year-old posted a 5.22 ERA across 58.2 frames with the Rangers in 2022.

  • Reds' Casey Legumina: Recalled from Triple-A

Legumina was recalled Saturday from Triple-A Louisville.

Acquired from the Twins in November as part of the Kyle Farmer trade, Legumina is set to make his MLB debut out of the Reds' bullpen. He had worked to a 1.59 ERA with five strikeouts and no walks through 5.2 innings this season at Triple-A.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Mets' Dennis Santana: Snags win in Oakland

Santana (1-0) was credited with the win in Friday's 17-6 rout of the A's, giving up one run on two hits over 2.1 innings of relief while striking out two.

Kodai Senga failed to last five innings as the starter and Stephen Nogosek (elbow) left in the sixth after being hit by a comebacker, so Santana fell into the decision despite entering the game with the Mets ahead by eight runs. The 27-year-old hasn't exactly been effective to begin the season, posting a 7.04 ERA and 10:5 K:BB through 7.2 innings.

  • John Curtiss RP | ARI

Mets' John Curtiss: Mops up Friday's rout

Curtiss struck out one in a perfect ninth inning during Friday's 17-6 win over the A's.

The leverage was about as low as it gets, but Curtiss still did his job effectively. The 30-year-old right-hander has two holds in six appearances to begin the season along with a 1.23 ERA and 6:2 K:BB through 7.1 innings, but despite numerous injuries in the Mets' bullpen, he seems unlikely to see consistent late-inning work.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Nationals' Hunter Harvey: Collects fourth hold

Harvey gave up two runs on two hits and two walks over 1.2 innings while striking out three in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Guardians, but he still recorded his fourth hold of the season.

The right-hander entered the game in the top of the sixth inning with the Nationals ahead 3-0 and gave up runs in consecutive frames, punctuated by a Josh Bell solo shot in the seventh, but he still exited with his club ahead on the scoreboard. Harvey's control has begun to desert him and he's walked four batters in his last three appearances, but through 7.2 innings he still sports a respectable 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Manager Dave Martinez hinted this spring that the Nats might use some sort of closing committee, and while Harvey has yet to see a save chance in 2023, Kyle Finnegan's 11.81 ERA and 3:4 K:BB in 5.1 innings is leaving the door wide open for someone else to see ninth-inning duty on the rare occasions the team has a late lead to protect.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Giants' Camilo Doval: Stuck with tough loss in extras

Doval (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Giants fell 7-5 to the Tigers in 11 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on only one hit over 1.2 innings. He struck out three.

The closer kept Detroit off the board in the bottom of the 10th inning, but when San Francisco grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of the 11th, Doval remained on the mound. The right-hander watched second baseman David Villar make a poor decision on defense by trying to get the phantom runner at third base on a slow chopper to lead off the bottom of the frame, and after he struck out the next two batters -- which would have ended the game, had Villar taken the easy out at first base -- Nick Maton turned on a 96.8 mph fastball up in the zone and slugged a walkoff home run on Doval's 21st pitch of the night. He's got more losses than saves (one) right now and an ugly 6.35 ERA, but Doval's 33.3 percent strikeout rate through his first 5.2 innings suggests there's little cause for concern in the long run.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Giants' Sean Manaea: Early exit in no-decision

Manaea didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 extra-innings loss to the Tigers, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk over 3.1 innings while striking out four.

The veteran lefty needed 82 pitches (53 strikes) to record just 10 outs and exited the game with the Giants down 2-1. Manaea was taken off the hook for the loss when J.D. Davis (leg) went yard in the eighth to tie things up and force extra innings. Manaea has a 13:4 K:BB in 11.1 innings over his first three appearances (two starts) this season, but that comes with a 4.76 ERA and 4.70 FIP. He'll remain in the rotation for now and lines up for a road tilt against the Marlins next week.

  • Zack Thompson RP | STL

Cardinals' Zack Thompson: Collects win Friday

Thompson (1-0) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out four over 1.2 innings to earn the win Friday over the Pirates.

Starter Jake Woodford pitched 5.1 scoreless innings but received no run support. Thompson was able to get some help as the Cardinals got on the board in the sixth inning and maintained the lead to earn him the win in his sixth appearances this season. The southpaw has done well as a multi-inning option, giving up one unearned run on six hits and four walks while striking out 11 over seven innings this season. He also has a hold. Thompson is the Cardinals' most effective lefty in the bullpen, so he could work his way into some high-leverage spots.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | PHI

Brewers' Bryse Wilson: Earns three-inning save

Wilson yielded one run on four hits over three innings during Friday's win over Padres. He struck out two and earned a save.

Wilson picked up his second three-inning save of the season during an 11-2 blowout win. He coughed up an RBI single to Rougned Odor in the eighth inning but otherwise kept the Padres off the board. Wilson has allowed one run with a 9:3 K:BB through nine innings.

  • Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Notches easy save

Gallegos struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over the Pirates on Friday.

Gallegos needed just 10 pitches to finish off the 3-0 victory. He's now sporting a 7:0 K:BB after converting his first save chance of the year. Ryan Helsley did not appear in Friday's game after pitching Tuesday and Wednesday.
