Hudson allowed one hit and struck out two batters in a scoreless inning against Kansas City on Friday.

Hudson made his big-league season debut after missing three months while recovering from last June's torn ACL. The right-hander didn't show any rust in his return, throwing 11 of 14 pitches for a strike, fanning two batters and allowing just an infield single. Hudson could see high-leverage work pretty quickly given his success (2.22 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 30:5 K:BB over 24.1 frames) with the team last season.

The Padres recalled Avila from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

Avila didn't make the club out of spring training and hasn't pitched well for El Paso in the minors, posting an 8.49 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 41:27 K:BB over 46.2 innings. The right-hander has worked mostly in the rotation, starting in 13 of his 16 Triple-A appearances, and he could be up with San Diego as a backup plan to start Sunday in Cincinnati if Yu Darvish hasn't recovered from a bout with the flu, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Cosgrove (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday.

Cosgrove returns to action after spending the minimum 15 days on the injured list while dealing with a left hamstring strain. The southpaw has pitched well for the Padres this season, posting a minuscule 0.53 ERA and 0.53 WHIP along with a 15:2 K:BB over 17 innings. He hasn't seen much work in high-leverage spots, though, and has yet to record a hold or a save.

San Diego optioned Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

The move comes a day after Kerr was charged with a blown save as a result of serving up a 10th-inning, game-tying, two-run shot to Matt McLain that led to another Padres defeat. Kerr has struggled to keep the ball in the park while with the big club this season, serving up three homers in eight innings. San Diego made a number of other bullpen moves Saturday, placing Drew Carlton (elbow) on the injured list, activating lefty Tom Cosgrove from the 15-day IL and recalling righty Pedro Avila from Triple-A El Paso.

Carlton was put on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right elbow inflammation.

Carlton tossed two-thirds of an inning Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits while being charged with the loss against the Reds. The right-hander apparently came away with an elbow issue that will sideline him for at least 15 days. San Diego also optioned reliever Ray Kerr to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday while reinstating southpaw Tom Cosgrove from the injured list and recalling righty Pedro Avila from the minors.

Hudson was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to serve as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader versus the Yankees.

Hudson has endured some mixed results over seven outings since returning from a neck injury, posting a 6.37 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 26:12 K:BB for Memphis in that span. The right-hander will likely work out of the bullpen Saturday, as Jack Flaherty and Matthew Liberatore are set to start the two games.

Raley struck out the only two batters he faced Friday to record his 15th hold of the season in a loss to the Giants.

The southpaw fired six of eight pitches for strikes as he rung up Casey Schmitt and LaMonte Wade for the final two outs of the seventh inning, but David Robertson coughed up the lead in the eighth. Raley is third in the NL in holds behind Tyler Rogers' 20 and Steven Wilson's 16 despite missing a couple weeks in May with a sore elbow, bolstering that production with a 2.51 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB through 28.2 innings.

Fulmer, who pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in Friday's 10-1 win over the Guardians, has a 0.66 ERA across 13.2 innings this month.

Fulmer has only been scored upon once in 12 June appearances, and he has also registered 14 strikeouts across the 13.2 innings. The veteran entered the month with a 7.36 ERA for the season, but he's been able to lower that to 4.79. Fulmer seems to have regained his form as a reliable reliever, though he's not seeing save chances with the Cubs, so his fantasy value remains limited.

Harvey picked up the save Friday against Philadelphia, striking out two over a perfect inning.

Harvey appears to have surpassed Kyle Finnegan as Washington's top closer, as the former has secured four straight saves while the latter hasn't had a save opportunity since blowing three straight in early June. Harvey hasn't allowed a run over his last six appearances (5.1 innings) and has a solid 6:1 K:BB during that stretch. Overall, he's 7-for-12 in save chances and sports a 3.25 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

Kerr blew the save Friday against the Reds, allowing one earned run on one hit over one inning. He didn't record a walk or strikeout.

Kerr was a spotted a two-run lead in the 10th inning, but he allowed a game-tying, two-run shot to Matt McLain, marking the first blown save of his career. The left-hander has made eight appearances across three different stints in the big leagues this year, but he's allowed three home runs across eight innings and sports an ugly 5.63 ERA.
