Hudson (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three over 3.2 innings as he picked up the win over the Cubs on Friday.

Hudson made his first appearance this season after spending time recovering from the Tommy John surgery he had last September. He piggybacked Jack Flaherty in the twin bill of Friday's doubleheader and likely entered earlier than he anticipated after Flaherty was only able to record a single out before getting pulled. Regardless, Hudson looked solid after not pitching in a live game for over a year. The 26-year-old allowed a run in the third and fifth innings but otherwise held the Cubs in check, throwing 61 pitches and 41 for strikes. It's unclear what the Cardinals have in store for him moving forward, but he'll likely continue to follow Flaherty as the two figure to keep working in a tandem to close out the year.

Jansen saved Friday's 4-2 win against the Diamondbacks, striking out one in the ninth inning.

Jansen was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead and required just eight pitches to lock down the victory. The 33-year-old has now allowed just one run across 10.1 September innings and possesses a 2.33 ERA on the season.

Knehr (1-1) took the loss in Friday's 4-0 defeat against Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits with one strikeout in four innings.

Making his first appearance since Aug. 24, Knehr surrendered three runs in the game's first two innings, which was enough for the loss in a game where San Diego failed to score. The 24-year-old joined the big-league roster as part of doubleheader featuring a resumed game. He may not see another opportunity this season.

Lambert pitched 3.2 innings against San Francisco on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander made his first big-league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in July of last year. He tossed 65 pitches and gave up a pair of solo home runs but kept the Rockies in the game, leaving with the score tied 2-2. All told, it was a mostly positive outing given Lambert's long layoff and the quality of opponent, and he is slated for a more promising matchup at home against the Nationals next week.

Howard struck out three in a perfect inning in Friday's 8-6 loss to Philadelphia.

The southpaw did his job as the opener in Friday's bullpen game, mowing through the top of Philadelphia's order in just 12 pitches (nine strikes). Howard owns a 5.66 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 54:29 K:BB through 41.1 innings while logging 11 holds in 50 appearances. The 28-year-old is most likely to resume a low-leverage relief role going forward.

Neris (4-6) allowed a hit and three walks while striking out three in 1.2 innings Friday, earning the win versus Pittsburgh.

It was far from a pretty performance, but Neris was able to settle things down after Cam Bedrosian allowed Pittsburgh to briefly take the lead in the seventh inning. Through 13.1 innings in September, Neris has given up four runs on nine hits and three walks with 18 strikeouts. The right-hander has a 3.33 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 91:28 K:BB across 70.1 innings overall while adding 12 saves and 11 holds in a high-leverage role.

Gallegos pitched a perfect inning and struck out two to earn the save in an 8-5 win during the first game of Friday's doubleheader versus the Cubs.

Gallegos continues to thrive in the closer role, as he's converted 10 of his 11 save chances in September. While he's allowed five runs in 11.2 innings this month, four of those came in one appearances versus Milwaukee. The right-hander is up to 13 saves and 24 holds while logging a 3.14 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 93:18 K:BB through 77.1 innings overall. St. Louis has won 14 straight games and leads Philadelphia by five games for the last wild-card spot in the NL, so Gallegos will likely continue to be counted on as the primary closer.

Reyes (10-8) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings Friday, earning the win in the first game of a doubleheader versus the Cubs.

The right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Sergio Alcantara and put two more runners aboard before T.J. McFarland allowed a two-run double. Reyes was far from effective, but St. Louis' lead was large enough to avoid any disasters from his poor pitching. For the season, he has a 3.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 93:52 K:BB across 71.1 innings. He's added 29 saves and three holds, but a 2-for-6 run in save chances in late August and early September has seen Reyes often work in more of a multi-inning role lately.

Williams' calf is feeling better, but it's not yet clear when he'll return to action, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

A calf issue has kept Williams off the mound since Saturday. He played catch prior to Friday's game against the Mets, but the Brewers have yet to officially say that he's ready for game action.

Lambert (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list prior to his scheduled Friday start against the Giants.

The club announced Lambert as Friday's starter earlier in the week, and now the club has made the move official by transferring Connor Joe (hamstring) to the 60-day IL and optioning Ryan Vilade to Triple-A Albuquerque. Lambert will be making his first start since 2019, when he went 3-7 with a 7.25 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. Per Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post, manager Bud Black said that he will be on a pitch count of approximately 60.
