Beede was placed on the injured list Thursday due to lower back pain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Beede was placed on the injured list earlier Thursday, though the reason was originally undisclosed. His timeline remains unclear, but he could return by Aug. 19 if he progresses quickly enough in his recovery. Beede has struggled since being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 6.92 ERA and 2.08 WHIP across 13 innings.

Knehr was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Knehr returned to the majors at the beginning of August, and he logged a 1.23 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 7.1 innings across three appearances. Right-hander Nabil Crismatt was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

Rainey was returned to Triple-A Rochester following Thursday's doubleheader against the Mets, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Rainey served as the 27th man Wednesday, and he remained in the big-league bullpen for Thursday's twin bill. The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits and no walks in a relief inning during Game 2 on Thursday, and he'll head back to the minors following his lackluster performance.

Gilbert will start Saturday's game against the Padres, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.

Gilbert joined the major-league club in early August, and he's struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings across three relief appearances. The southpaw worked mainly as a starter at Triple-A Reno to begin the year, so he should be able to handle a normal workload in his first major-league start.

Nolin (0-1) took the loss in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He allowed four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and zero walks in three innings.

Nolin made his first MLB appearance since 2015, and New York didn't have any issues getting on base against him. It'll likely only be a spot start for the left-hander since Washington has three scheduled off days within the next couple weeks.

Diaz delivered a scoreless seventh inning during the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals to earn the save. He gave up one hit and had zero strikeouts or walks.

Diaz also delivered a scoreless frame Wednesday to record a save, so he's unlikely to be available for the nightcap of Thursday's twin bill. The right-hander has converted six straight saves and has a 2.57 ERA in eight innings since blowing three consecutive save chances in mid-July.

The Diamondbacks outrighted Weems to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Weems will stay in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put in a claim for the right-handed reliever when he was exposed to waivers earlier in the week. The 28-year-old has appeared in seven games between Oakland and Arizona this season, giving up 10 earned runs on six hits and six walks across 5.2 innings.

Hernandez (quadriceps) made the third start of his minor-league rehab assignment at Double-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, tossing five innings and allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Hernandez needed only 62 pitches (48 strikes) to record his 10 punchouts. After missing the past two months with a right quad strain, Hernandez has looked dominant through his three rehab outings, allowing only one run while posting an 18:0 K:BB in 11.2 innings. The Marlins haven't announced their plans for Hernandez, but based on where his pitch count currently stands and how he's performed in the minors, his next start will most likely come with the big club either Sunday against the Cubs or during next week's series with Atlanta. The 26-year-old right-hander makes for an intriguing pitcher to stash in leagues where he's sitting on the waiver wire.

Axford (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Axford's shift to the 60-day IL is simply procedural since he's dealing with significant structural damage in his elbow and won't pitch again this season. The Brewers haven't yet announced whether the 38-year-old will require surgery or if he'll be ready for the start of spring training in 2022.
