Mears was promoted from the alternate training site prior to Thursday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

He has a 5.40 ERA, 2.70 WHIP and more walks (seven) than strikeouts (four) in 3.1 innings in the majors this year. While almost all the Pirates' high-leverage arms are injured, Mears still seems like a long shot to get late-inning work in close games.

The Dodgers recalled White from their alternate training site Thursday.

He'll take the active roster spot of Walker Buehler, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a blister on his right hand. Buehler had been expected to start the second game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Giants, so White -- who started in 13 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2019 -- could be a potential candidate to fill the void, though manager Dave Roberts could simply opt to go with a bullpen game. White has yet to make his MLB debut.

The Padres recalled Bednar from their alternate training site Thursday.

He'll join the Padres as the 29th man for the team's doubleheader Thursday against the Mariners. The right-handed reliever has made three appearances for San Diego in 2020, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.1 innings.

Hoffman earned the save Wednesday against the Diamondbacks after walking one and striking out one in one-third of an inning.

The Rockies entered the ninth with a five-run lead, but neither Tyler Kinley nor Jairo Diaz got the job done so manager Bud Black called Jeff Hoffman to shut the door on the Diamondbacks. With two outs and two runners on, Hoffman walked Eduardo Escobar and struck out Nick Ahmed to earn his first save of the season. Hoffman should gain confidence following this outing, as he had allowed runs in three of his previous four appearances out of the bullpen, though Daniel Bard still looks like the primary closer.

White is traveling with the Dodgers on the team's current road trip as part of the taxi squad, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

White's presence on the five-man squad gives the Dodgers a versatile depth option should they need to fill a starter's or reliever's spot due to injury or illness. The right-hander was briefly part of the active roster in early April but did not get into any games.

Hudson took a no-decision during Wednesday's win over the Royals, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three across six innings.

Aside from a two-run home run to Mac Gallagher in the third inning, Hudson managed to control the damage against Kansas City. The right-hander was easing back into things following an extended COVID-19 layoff. He did issue a season-high three free passes, something he'll need to better manage to avoid future trouble. Across four starts this season, Hudson owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. The 25-year-old will take the mound against Cincinnati on Monday.

Hernandez gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and walk in four innings versus the Mets on Wednesday. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.

Hernandez allowed solo shots to Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo in the contest -- the righty has given up multiple homers in each of his last two starts. The 25-year-old has a 3.04 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 32 strikeouts through 23.2 innings this season. Hernandez will look to keep up the strong pitching Tuesday versus the Blue Jays.

Diaz was removed from Wednesday's game against the Marlins with left leg cramps, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old exited the game after a visit from the athletic trainer, but the fact it's leg cramps is good news for the Mets. Diaz wanted to continue pitching, but manager Luis Rojas said the team didn't want to take any chances. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day, but he may not be sidelined for long, if at all.

Diaz exited Wednesday's game against the Marlins with an apparent injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander entered during the eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out, and he had a strikeout and gave up a single and a walk before being lifted during the middle of an at-bat. It's unclear what type of injury Diaz was dealing with, and he should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.

Melancon allowed one hit with no walks and no strikeouts in a scoreless inning to earn the save in the second game of Atlanta's doubleheader Wednesday against the Yankees.

Melancon came in to close the game in the seventh inning with a one-run lead. He allowed a two-out single to Gary Sanchez, but retired the next batter he faced to record his fifth save of the season. Melancon has earned five of the team's six saves to this point, and he's mostly done well in the role, allowing only two earned runs across 10 innings while striking out five and walking three.
