Gsellman is slated to start Monday's game against the Marlins in Miami, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Gsellman was thrust into a starting role last week after injuries to Jacob deGrom (neck) and Michael Wacha (shoulder) along with Marcus Stroman's decision to opt out of the season put further strain on an already-thin Mets rotation. Since he was making his first MLB start since 2017, Gsellman was capped at two innings (33 pitches) in the start against Washington, during which he served up three runs on four hits. Despite the poor showing, Gsellman still seems to have greater short-term security in the rotation than the struggling Steven Matz, whom manager Luis Rojas wouldn't commit to giving another start. Gsellman will likely face limited pitch counts for at least his next two outings as he builds up to a starter's workload, so he probably won't warrant an immediate pickup outside of NL-only leagues.

Romero was optioned to the Phillies' secondary training site on Sunday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.

Romero earned his first big-league callup Saturday but remained on the roster for just two days and did not get the chance to make his debut. He's clearly in the Phillies' plans, however, so he could get the chance to return to the roster when the team next needs an extra lefty.

The Diamondbacks recalled Payamps from their alternate training site ahead of Sunday's game against the Padres, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

He'll join the Arizona bullpen as a replacement for Jeremy Beasley (shoulder), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Payamps made the first two appearances of his MLB career with the Diamondbacks last August, giving up two earned runs over four innings. Expect him to handle a low-leverage role while he's up with the big club.

The Padres optioned Bednar to their alternate training site Sunday.

Outfielder/first baseman Josh Naylor was recalled from the alternate site in a corresponding move. Bednar was unlikely to be available out of the San Diego bullpen for the next two days anyway after working two innings in relief during Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Morejon was added to the Padres' taxi squad Sunday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The left-hander will join San Diego for its game in Arizona on Sunday and then head to Texas for a two-game series at the start of the week. Morejon offers plenty of versatility, as he has experience as a starter, opener and traditional reliever.

Cabrera (1-0) was credited with the victory in the Cardinals' win over the White Sox in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader despite allowing two earned runs on one hit and one walk over one inning. He struck out two.

The southpaw worked himself into some trouble after striking out Yoan Moncada to start the fourth inning, walking Yasmani Grandal and eventually surrendering a two-run home run to Eloy Jimenez that gave the White Sox a 3-1 lead. However, the Cardinals made Cabrera the pitcher of record in the visitors' half of the fifth inning with a four-run rally that gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The appearance was Cabrera's first of the season after he got a late start to summer camp due to a bout with COVID-19 and then saw the team's schedule paused for over two weeks due to a coronavirus outbreak.

The Cubs selected Adam's contract Sunday from their alternate training site, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Adam will assume the 40-man roster spot of pitcher Jharel Cotton, who was designated for assignment. The 29-year-old made 23 appearances out of the Toronto bullpen in 2019, posting a 2.91 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 21.2 innings.

Ponce de Leon will start Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The young right-hander will get the call for the one non-doubleheader day of the five-game set against the Cubs. Ponce de Leon was originally slated to start Aug. 7 versus Chicago before the team's COVID-19 breakout suspended play until Saturday. Ponce de Leon has a chance to make a case for sticking in the rotation the rest of the way if he can put together some strong performances while Carlos Martinez (undisclosed) remains on the injured list, but he'll presumably have to prove more effective than Kwang-Hyun Kim, who is also entering the rotation with his start in the first game of Monday's doubleheader.

The Cardinals placed Helsley (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday.

Helsley and outfielders Austin Dean and Lane Thomas were removed from the active roster after all three were revealed to be among the several Cardinals players who recently tested positive for the coronavirus as part of a team-wide outbreak. With Helsley out indefinitely and Kwang-Hyun Kim having recently been moved to the rotation, the Cardinals' closing situation appears quite unsettled as the team resumes play this weekend. Andrew Miller recorded a save during one half of Saturday's doubleheader, but Giovanny Gallegos and Tyler Webb could also be part of the late-inning mix if manager Mike Shildt takes a committee approach to the closer's role.

Jansen earned his sixth save of the season Saturday against the Angels. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two.

Jansen has been outstanding this season, and he has gone 6-for-6 in save opportunities while also racking up four straight appearances without allowing a hit or a run. In fact, Jansen has allowed two just hits and one run all season long, and he owns a 0.96 ERA with a 0.64 WHIP in 9.1 innings across 10 appearances in 2020.
