Manager Bruce Bochy wouldn't commit to Beede making a start when his turn in the rotation comes during next week's series versus the Cubs, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "He's a guy we believe in, and we'll see where we're at five days from now," Bochy said Wednesday regarding Beede's rotation status.

Bochy made those comments after Beede was charged with four runs on eight hits over four innings to take the loss in the series finale with the Athletics. Beede turned in a pair of impressive outings coming out of the All-Star break but has been roughed up his subsequent five times out, going 0-4 with an 8.49 ERA and 2.01 WHIP in those contests. With off days coming up Aug. 19, 23 and 28, the Giants could opt to get by with a four-man rotation for the next two weeks rather than tabbing someone as a replacement for Beede.

Kuhnel had his contract selected from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Kuhnel will get his first taste of the majors after compiling a sharp 2.18 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB across 53.2 innings between Louisville and Double-A Chattanooga. The 24-year-old right-hander has some experience in the ninth inning (42 saves over the past three seasons), so he could work his way into a high-leverage role with the big club if his success in the minors translates. Jared Hughes was placed on waivers -- and claimed by the Phillies -- in a corresponding move.

Bowman was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Bowman will take the roster spot of Sal Romano, who was sent to the minors after allowing eight runs across two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's 17-7 loss to the Nationals. In 18 appearances with the Reds this season, Bowman owns a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB in 19.2 innings.

Webb, who fired 1.1 perfect innings during which he recorded a strikeout in a win against the Royals on Wednesday, now has an 0.84 ERA, 0.38 WHIP and .188 BAA across 10.2 innings over 10 appearances since his latest promotion from Triple-A Memphis.

As those numbers imply, the left-hander has been in dominant form since his return. Webb owns a solid 3.51 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 41 innings at the big-league level this season while also notching one save and four holds.

Bukauskas has been placed on the minor-league injured list with elbow soreness, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Bukauskas, who was one of four players acquired from Houston in the Zack Greinke trade, is headed back to Phoenix for an evaluation. In two starts at Double-A Jackson since the trade, the right-hander has allowed six runs on 10 hits and five walks over 10 innings.

Beede (3-7) took the loss Wednesday as the Giants were downed 9-5 by the A's, allowing four runs on eight hits over four-plus innings while striking out five.

The right-hander was given the hook after serving up a leadoff single to begin the fifth inning, having already tossed 80 pitches (50 strikes). Beede will carry a 5.77 ERA and 81:36 K:BB through 82.2 innings into his next start, which could come on the road Aug. 21 against the Cubs.

Hudson (11-6) earned the win Wednesday after holding the Royals scoreless over six innings, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out five.

Facing the Royals for the first time, Hudson delivered a solid performance to earn his 13th win in his last 16 starts. Despite allowing runners to reach in every inning except the third, the right-hander held his opponent scoreless for just the third time (second start) this season. The 24-year-old had previously allowed 10 runs over his last 11.2 innings, but he shut the Royals out in dominant fashion to improve to a 3.82 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 97:59 K:BB on the season. He'll gear up for a tougher matchup on Monday against the Twins.

Hernandez (2-5) gave up six runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six through six innings to take the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Hernandez did notch 11 swinging strikes, but he also allowed four home runs in this outing. This was a step back after going six scoreless innings in his last start. The 24-year-old has a 5.40 ERA with 55 strikeouts through nine starts this season. Hernandez will make his next start Tuesday against the Braves at SunTrust Park.

Rodriguez will be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start Thursday at Arizona, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Rodriguez had his turn in Sacramento's rotation skipped earlier this week, so it's no major surprise to seem him penciled in for Thursday's start. The 27-year-old has struggled in the majors this season with a 5.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 42:25 K:BB over 64.1 innings.

Kimbrel (knee) will throw another bullpen session Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Thursday's session will mark Kimbrel's second bullpen since landing on the injured list with right knee inflammation earlier in August. The reliever will be reevaluated Friday and could be cleared to return shortly thereafter if he checks out OK. Pedro Strop should continue to see the majority of save opportunities for the Cubs until Kimbrel is back.
