Shaw (2-0) picked up the win against the Giants on Thursday, despite a rough relief outing that saw him give up three earned runs on one hit in Colorado's eventual 12-11 victory. He struck out two and walked two.

Shaw had been off to a solid start to the season, but he was tagged with a blown save in this contest after he walked two batters before conceding a three-run homer to Tyler Austin. Shaw's 2.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 23 innings remain solid, but his uninspiring 11:10 K:BB leaves concern the ERA won't remain that low if he doesn't start to cut down on the walks.

Richards (0-5) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings to take the loss Thursday against the Cubs.

Richards was burned by two home runs that accounted for three of his four earned runs. He flashed decent skills by racking up 13 swinging strikes and 19 called strikes across 94 total pitches, but he was unable to translate that to a strong overall outing. In order to get better results, he'll have to both limit homers and walks, as he has surrendered 4.90 BB/9 and 1.50 HR/9 across 42.1 innings this season. He'll look to get on the right track in his next start, likely to come Wednesday against Tampa Bay.

Iglesias allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against Oakland.

Iglesias pitched for the first time since raising concern about his usage, appearing in a save situation. While his performance was a bit rocky -- he allowed a walk and double to allow the tying run to come to the plate -- Iglesias ultimately came through to record his seventh save of the season. While he has an ugly 4.34 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, Iglesias has struggled mostly in non-save situations and has now converted five of his six most recent save chances.

Cordero was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Thursday, Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.

This move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Gerardo Parra, who was signed to a major-league deal in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old Cordero struggled to a 6.00 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB in 15 innings with Triple-A Fresno prior to receiving the DFA. He made 22 appearances for the Nationals in 2018, posting a 5.68 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 12:12 K:BB in 19 innings.

Clarke was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

The Diamondbacks need a fresh bullpen arm for Thursday's series opener against Atlanta after using eight relievers during Wednesday's extra-innings win over the Rays, so Clarke was shuttled back to the minors in exchange for Jon Duplantier. The right-hander held his own in his first career big-league start earlier in the week, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two in six innings. It remains to be seen whether Clarke will rejoin the big-league rotation later in the month. The Diamondbacks have yet to announce who will start in place of Clarke on Sunday, though Zack Godley is an option.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Pomeranz (lat) could miss just one turn through the rotation, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Pomeranz landed on the injured list Thursday with a left lat strain, but the injury doesn't appear to be anything that will keep him sidelined for an extended period. The southpaw is eligible to return May 17, should he prove ready. With a pair of upcoming off days, the Giants figure to proceed with four starters until May 21, at which point Pomeranz might be ready to rejoin the rotation.

The Giants recalled Beede from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Prior to Derek Holland's (finger) return from the 10-day injured list this week, Beede was shipped out to Sacramento after making one spot start in Holland's stead. It was a disastrous debut outing for Beede, who lasted just 2.1 innings while giving up seven runs on seven hits and two walks to the Reds. With the Giants having now shifted another member of their rotation in Drew Pomeranz (lat) to the IL, Beede will get another shot at redemption in the big leagues, though he'll be limited to a long-relief role initially, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. The Giants can get by with four starters until at least May 21, so Beede may not enter the rotation unless Pomeranz's absence extends past that date.

The Giants placed Pomeranz on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left lat strain.

Pomeranz likely picked up the injury during his start Monday in Cincinnati, where he was torched for a season-high seven runs on nine hits and one walk over 1.2 innings. The Giants have enough off days in their schedule coming up to get by with a four-man rotation until Pomeranz is eligible to return May 17, but it's uncertain if the lefty will be ready to come off the IL in the minimum amount of time. Tyler Beede was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move and will be available in long relief for the time being, though he would be the top candidate to join the rotation if Pomeranz's absence extends beyond 10 days.

The Pirates plan to recall Holmes from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of Thursday's series opener with the Cardinals, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

With the newest additions to the Pittsburgh rotation, Steven Brault and Nick Kingham, both covering only four innings in their first starts of the season earlier this week against the Rangers, the bullpen has been overworked. Holmes will thus provide the Pirates with a much-needed fresh arm capable of covering multiple innings out of the bullpen. Over his 10 appearances with Indianapolis this season, Holmes has posted a 6.32 ERA and 2.04 WHIP in 15.2 innings.

Strahm allowed two runs on six hits and one walk over 6.1 innings during Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Mets. He struck out seven but did not factor in the decision.

Strahm delivered his fourth straight quality start and has a 26:1 K:BB in 26.1 innings across those outings, but unfortunately the Padres didn't take the lead Wednesday until after he exited the game. The 27-year-old has a 3.00 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through his first seven starts (39 innings) of the season, and lines up to face the Dodgers on the road next week.
