Ferguson played catch Tuesday to test his sore oblique, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Ferguson hit the injured list Sunday, but his absence isn't expected to be particularly lengthy. The fact that he's already throwing hints in that direction, though a clearer timeline won't emerge until Ferguson is sent out on a rehab assignment.

Diaz won't be available to pitch Tuesday night due to rest purposes, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Diaz has pitched in three straight games, so the Mets will shut him down for the night to get him some rest. Jeurys Familia will be called upon in a save situation, if necessary.

Wilson (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen Wednesday, Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports reports.

Wilson is confident that he's close to a return, and he doesn't believe he'll need a rehab stint before coming off the 10-day injured list. He'll travel with the team to Milwaukee later in the week and appears primed for a weekend activation.

Maton was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Maton has appeared out of the bullpen five times for the Padres in 2019 and owns a 5.14 ERA with five punchouts over seven innings. Fernando Tatis (hamstring) was moved to the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Adams was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Adams allowed a run on two walks and struck out two in his lone inning pitched this season for Washington. He was designated for assignment to make room for Dan Jennings on the 40-man roster.

Brebbia, who notched his seventh hold in a win over the Nationals on Monday with a scoreless eighth inning in which he allowed three walks and recorded a strikeout, now sports an 0.55 ERA and 0.86 WHIP across 16.1 innings.

The 28-year-old right-hander has been one of manager Mike Shildt's most trusted and versatile relief options, with six of his 14 appearances consisting of more than one inning. Brebbia also has an impressive 20 strikeouts across his 16.1 frames, and Shildt seems willing to afford him all the work he can handle if his early usage is any indication.

Strahm is expected to make his next start Thursday against the Braves, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Strahm had been listed as the Padres' probable starter for the second game of the series in Atlanta on Wednesday, but the organization was eager to build in an extra day of rest for the left-hander, who is working as a full-time starter for the first time since 2016. The Padres are set to call up Cal Quantrill from Triple-A El Paso to take the hill Wednesday, thus giving San Diego a temporary six-man rotation. San Diego plans to implement an undisclosed innings cap for Strahm this season, but he should remain a quality option in the majority of leagues most weeks, assuming his matchup(s) aren't too unfavorable. Through five starts, Strahm has compiled a 3.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 26.2 innings.

Manager Dave Roberts said the oblique injury that Ferguson picked up during a relief appearance Saturday against the Pirates won't require a lengthy stay on the 10-day injured list, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Roberts called Ferguson's diagnosis "the best-case scenario" considering the Dodgers had feared that he suffered a more significant setback. Ferguson could resume throwing within the next few days, which would set him up to return from the injured list in the minimum amount of time or close to it.

Smith recorded the save Monday against the Dodgers, working around a hit to fire a scoreless ninth inning and close out the Giants' 3-2 victory. He struck out two and walked none.

Smith allowed a bloop single to Austin Barnes, but punched out two hitters to protect the one-run lead and lock down his seventh save in as many opportunities. It was a nice bounceback effort from the left-hander, who was tagged for three earned in one inning in a non-save situation his last time out. He now has a 3.38 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 10.2 innings on the season.

Diaz (0-1) took the loss Monday as the Mets fell 5-4 to the Reds, giving up a solo home run in one inning of relief.

Skipper Mickey Callaway said earlier in the month that managing Diaz's workload was a priority and gave certain scenarios in which he wouldn't be used, but somehow pitching three straight days didn't make the list. With the score tied in the ninth inning, Jesse Winker crushed the first pitch he saw from the Mets closer 415 feet to right field -- the first hit Diaz has given up to a left-handed hitter this season. Despite the hiccup, the former Mariner still boasts a 1.54 ERA and 20:2 K:BB through 11.2 innings, and he's converted all eight of his save chances through 13 appearances. Expect Diaz to be unavailable Tuesday, and Callaway might think twice about using him in Wednesday's game as well.
