  • Tyler Phillips SP | MIA

Marlins' Tyler Phillips: Earns rare save

Phillips threw a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. He did not record a walk or strikeout.

Calvin Faucher was unavailable after tossing 22 pitches Saturday while Ronny Henriquez retired Vladimir Guerrero for the final out of the eighth inning, so Phillips was summoned for his second save opportunity of the season and shut the door on just six pitches. He now owns five holds and two saves this season along with a 3.27 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB across 63.1 innings, and both saves have come in the last month.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Escapes with 22nd save

Iglesias earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Mets, allowing one run on three hits in the ninth inning. He did not record a walk or strikeout.

Iglesias was tasked with protecting a two-run lead in the ninth and held on despite giving up three straight one-out singles. It marked the first time the veteran closer has allowed a run in his past 14 outings, and he's now converted 11 straight save chances dating back to July 28. On the year, he's 22-for-27 in save opportunities with a 3.95 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 58:10 K:BB across 54.2 innings.

  • Phillies' Orion Kerkering: Picks up fourth save

Kerkering earned the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Nationals, allowing one run on one hit and no walks with one strikeout in the ninth inning.

With Jhoan Duran unavailable after pitching on back-to-back days, Kerkering was called on in the ninth and closed the door despite surrendering a solo homer. The 24-year-old now owns a 2.92 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB to go along with 19 holds and four saves across 49.1 innings this season.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Notches 11th save

Walker earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Brewers, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

With Randy Rodriguez (arm) unavailable Sunday, the Giants turned to Walker in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The right-hander was able to work around Sal Frelick's two-out single to lock down his 11th save this season and first since May 25. Walker has been sharp of late, turning in six straight scoreless appearances and posting a 0.77 ERA over his last 11.2 innings. He'd be the favorite for the ninth-inning job going forward should Rodriguez miss any additional time.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Stuck with another blown save

Megill (5-3) took the loss and a blown save Sunday against the Giants, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in the ninth inning. He struck out two.

While trying to protect a one-run lead in the ninth, Megill allowed the Giants to load the bases before giving up a two-run, two-out hit to Heliot Ramos. Megill's now been saddled with a blown save in two straight appearances and three of his last four outings. Overall, he's converted 30 of 36 save chances this year while posting a 2.54 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP and 58:17 K:BB across 46 innings.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Dealing with arm soreness

Rodriguez was unavailable for Sunday's 4-3 win against the Brewers due to right arm soreness, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Rodriguez was tagged with the loss in Friday's 5-4 defeat in Milwaukee, and he apparently torqued something in his pitching arm in the process. Ryan Walker was called upon to protect the Giants' one-run lead in the ninth inning Sunday, working around a two-out single by Sal Frelick to earn a save. Rodriguez still appears to be in the driver's seat for the ninth-inning role with San Francisco, and he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's off day.

  • Brewers' Carlos Rodriguez: Returns to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.

Rodriguez was called up by Milwaukee on Wednesday and will return to Triple-A after giving up four runs over three frames out of the bullpen during Saturday's 7-1 loss to the Giants in his second MLB appearance of the season. He's now surrendered seven runs across his two long-relief outings for Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Anthony Veneziano: Sent back to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Veneziano to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.

Veneziano will cede his spot in the St. Louis bullpen to John King (oblique), who was activated from the 15-day injured list. After being called up from Memphis last Sunday, Veneziano made two relief appearances for the Cardinals and gave up two earned runs on three hits and one walk over four innings.

  • John King RP | STL

Cardinals' John King: Makes return from IL

The Cardinals activated King (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Sunday.

St. Louis optioned reliever Anthony Veneziano to Triple-A Memphis to clear room in the bullpen for King, who had been shelved since July 30 due to a left oblique strain. Prior to going down with the injury, King had notched two wins and two holds while delivering a 5.18 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB across 41.2 innings in 43 appearances.

  • Giants' Joey Lucchesi: Scoreless outing Saturday

Lucchesi threw a scoreless inning in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Brewers, allowing one hit.

Lucchesi entered the game in the seventh, giving up a single and throwing seven of his 12 pitches for strikes. The 32-year-old has appeared in nine games this month, recording a 9.39 ERA, 2.22 WHIP and a 4:4 K:BB in 7.2 innings. Overall, he owns a 3.96 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 21:6 K:BB across 25 innings in 25 games.
