  • Ian Gibaut RP | CIN

Reds' Ian Gibaut: Scheduled for surgery

Gibaut (shoulder) has been scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery, MLB.com reports.

Gibaut was pulled off a rehab assignment earlier this month when his arm didn't respond well following an outing. No date for the surgery was provided, nor was an expected timeline for his recovery.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Saalfrank: Back on track with second save

Saalfrank struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Guardians.

Saalfrank took a blown save in Colorado on Saturday, allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning. He bounced back with a sharp outing Tuesday, needing just nine pitchers to retire the Cleveland trio of Jose Ramirez, Kyle Manzardo and Carlos Santana. It's interesting that Saalfrank got the nod for this save when fellow left-hander Jalen Beeks had pitched just once over the previous four days. Arizona's bullpen has turned into a full-blown committee throughout the year between injuries and ineffectiveness. Saalfrank has been a breath of fresh air, pitching to a 1.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over 15.2 innings while picking up two saves and one hold. It's unclear if this outing is a signal that the 28-year-old will be competing for more save chances down the stretch, but he has taken care of business in lower-leverage spots to earn a larger role.

  • Tony Santillan RP | CIN

Reds' Tony Santillan: Secures fourth save

Santillan struck out two over a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Angels.

Emilio Pagan pitched Saturday and Sunday, but he's been held out of save opportunities Monday and Tuesday. Santillan got the job done on 12 pitches Tuesday after Scott Barlow converted the save Monday. Santillan has had mixed results in August, allowing three runs over 7.2 innings with a 9:6 K:BB, though he's also picked up five holds and a blown save. He remains in the high-leverage mix, and if the Reds' bullpen becomes a committee, that would likely increase his save share. For the season, Santillan has a 2.79 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 57:22 K:BB with four saves and 27 holds across 58 innings.

  • Cubs' Andrew Kittredge: Earns another save Tuesday

Kittredge tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record the save in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

Regular closer Daniel Palencia secured the save in the first game Tuesday, but the Cubs didn't use him for the nightcap, instead turning to Kittredge to protect a 4-1 lead. The veteran righty breezed through the top of the ninth inning on 10 pitches, giving him his second save in the last three days. Palencia is still the top option out of the Chicago bullpen, but it appears that Kittredge has earned some trust in late-game situations when needed.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Extends scoreless streak in save

Iglesias picked up the save in Tuesday's 11-10 win over the White Sox, throwing a clean ninth inning with no strikeouts.

That's now 12 consecutive scoreless innings for Iglesias, who has successfully converted each of his nine save chances during that span. The veteran right-hander had briefly lost his grip on the closer job at one point amid a dismal start to the campaign -- he had a 6.75 ERA through June 5 -- but he's been well back on track for over two months now. Over his last 28.2 innings, Iglesias boasts a 1.57 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 32:4 K:BB.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Secures 17th save

Palencia recorded his 17th save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

The right-hander hit triple digits on the radar gun with nine of his 17 pitches (11 strikes), but it was a 90.5 mph slider that got William Contreras to ground into a game-ending double play. Palencia has had a bumpy beginning to August, allowing runs in three of his six appearances while blowing one of four save chances, but his job as the Cubs' closer is in no jeopardy. On the season, Palencia sports a 1.81 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB through 44.2 innings.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Shuts door for save Tuesday

Duran picked up the save in Tuesday's 6-4 win over Seattle, throwing a clean ninth inning. He struck out one.

Duran has settled right into the closer role for the Phillies, having now successfully converted each of his first six save chances with his new club. Additionally, the hard-throwing right-hander has fired 5.2 scoreless innings to begin his tenure with Philadelphia. Duran did get some more bullpen competition Tuesday in the form of Jose Alvarado, though the former appears to be in no danger of losing his spot atop the hierarchy at the moment.

  • Anthony Bender RP | MIA

Marlins' Anthony Bender: Will miss rest of season

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Bender (lower leg) will miss the remainder of the season, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports.

Bender was placed on the 15-day IL earlier Tuesday due to a right tibial stress reaction. With his season over, Bender wraps up the 2025 campaign with a career-best 2.16 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 42:21 K:BB and four saves across 50 innings of work. Bender will be eligible for arbitration in the offseason, as Miami has two more years of player control.

  • Erik Miller RP | SF

Giants' Erik Miller: Shut down from throwing

Miller (elbow) won't throw for two weeks before being re-evaluated, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Miller underwent an MRI this week, which showed additional left elbow inflammation. The southpaw has been sidelined since early July after suffering a left elbow sprain, and he was nearing a return to the major-league roster after making four rehab appearances with Triple-A Sacramento, but he will now remain sidelined for the foreseeable future. At this point, Miller is unlikely to be activated from the 15-day injured list until mid-September at the earliest.

  • Tom Cosgrove RP | CHC

Cubs' Tom Cosgrove: Returns to Triple-A

The Cubs optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

The left-hander was called up ahead of Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader and will return to the minors after not appearing in the matinee. Cosgrove has made just two appearances in the majors this season and has a 4.66 ERA across 38.2 relief innings at Triple-A.
