  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Nationals' Cory Abbott: Collects win in relief

Abbott (1-1) recorded the win in Friday's 8-2 victory over the A's, allowing a hit and a walk over 1.1 scoreless relief innings. He struck out one.

Joan Adon (leg) left the game after three innings due to cramps, and after Abbott worked the top of the fourth, the Nats took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame. The 27-year-old right-hander has done little to earn a high-leverage role this season, and over 14.1 innings since the beginning of July he's been saddled with a 5.65 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB. With Washington more focused on the workloads of its young rotation arms than on winning, however, there could be plenty of long-relief innings available for Abbott down the stretch.

  • Abner Uribe RP | MIL

Brewers' Abner Uribe: Earns first save of season

Uribe pitched a perfect 10th inning to pick up the save in Friday's 7-6 win over the White Sox.

Closer Devin Williams had pitched in the ninth inning to help maintain the tie. With the Brewers taking the lead in the 10th, Uribe was called upon to close the door and delivered with a perfect frame. Uribe has been great for the club since making his debut July 8, allowing only two runs while striking out 14 in 13.1 innings. Continued performances like this could lead to the Brewers relying on him in higher-leverage situations as Milwaukee makes its playoff push.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Earns win in relief

Williams (7-3) earned the win Friday against the White Sox, striking out three in a perfect ninth inning.

He entered the bottom of the ninth in a tie game and struck out the side. The Brewers then tallied one in the top of the 10th to help secure the victory for Williams. The closer has seven wins and 27 saves on the season to go along with a 1.39 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 67 strikeouts in 45.1 innings.

  • Joan Adon SP | WAS

Nationals' Joan Adon: Dealing with leg cramps

Adon was removed from Friday's start against the Athletics because of cramping in both legs, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

It's unfortunate timing as Adon was making his second start since joining the Nationals' rotation, but it sounds like he should be able to take his next turn. The right-hander was charged with two runs on two hits and two walks before being pulled.

  • Denyi Reyes RP | NYM

Mets' Denyi Reyes: Starting during doubleheader

Reyes will be called up to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Atlanta, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The Mets don't have an off day until Aug. 24, forcing them to use a sixth starter at least once during the next couple weeks. Reyes was removed from the 40-man roster last month but will get another chance in a difficult matchup against Atlanta. Jose Quintana will take the ball in the nightcap for the Mets.

  • Andre Jackson RP | PIT

Pirates' Andre Jackson: Making start Saturday

Jackson will start for the Pirates in Saturday's game versus the Reds, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Though Jackson is getting his first MLB start Saturday, he has plenty of starting experience in the minors, and his relief appearances in the big leagues have routinely been of the multi-inning variety. The right-hander's last appearance came Tuesday, when he threw 30 pitches over two innings. Jackson hasn't allowed a single baserunner in his five innings with Pittsburgh. Since he'll be pitching on three days' rest and hasn't covered more than four innings in any appearance in the majors or minors this season, Jackson likely won't reach the five-inning threshold he'll need to qualify for a win.

  • Joan Adon SP | WAS

Nationals' Joan Adon: Exits with undisclosed injury

Adon was removed from Friday's start against the Athletics with an undisclosed injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

It's not clear what happened with the right-hander, but he was examined after warming up prior to the fourth inning before walking off the field and into the clubhouse. Adon allowed two runs on two hits and two walks before departing. He recorded three strikeouts.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

Giants' John Brebbia: Throwing bullpen session

Brebbia (lat) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Brebbia has missed nearly two months with a Grade 2 right lat strain but is finally ready to test things out on the bump. He's eligible for activation next week but could require a few rehab appearances first.

  • Tommy Doyle RP | COL

Rockies' Tommy Doyle: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rockies optioned Doyle to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Doyle was brought up from Triple-A toward the end of July and has since surrendered five runs over 7.1 innings out of the bullpen. He'll attempt to right the ship again in Triple-A, where he holds a 1.86 ERA on the season. Justin Bruihl will come up from Albuquerque to take Doyle's spot in the bullpen.

  • Justin Bruihl RP | STL

Rockies' Justin Bruihl: Recalled to majors

The Rockies recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Bruihl put up a 4.07 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 24.1 innings with the Dodgers before being traded at the deadline, and he'll now get his first opportunity with the Rockies. Tommy Doyle was optioned to Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
